77 Suburban need help A/C & rear tail latch

Getting ready to sell my 77 suburban (got a 93)

re: AC had it all rebuilt (R-12) a few years ago...but compressor(?) then problem: compressor doesn't come on, A/C place said it was just a solenoid and would cost $25....couldn't wait for install...then truck not driven...now I'd like to fix it and see how A/c works before selling...any ideas on what they might have meant or where to begin checking? Hate to go into an A/c repair shop middle of summer if I could just replace a couple of switches and see if it worked or not...since I won't be doing any major repair work at this point...

And rear utility door handle isn't functioning right...I'd like to see a picture of it, my manual is sadly lacking...I'm missing something on the vertical round metal piece that extends from the handle...when the handle is pulled, this piece moves, thereby pulling on the two horizontal pieces that extend to the sides of the door, opening the latches...

Fixed the rear latch...

Now I just need to find a helpful AC site...preferably with a diagram or pics, since the terminology isn't familiar to me....
