replacing 96 eng with 2000 eng

I am about to replace my engine w/trans for the 96 Explorer with an engine w/trans from a 2000 Explorer. The motor codes are the same - X, on the VIN. My only concern is the computer and sensors, and the trans - I have an R4 and the 2000 engine has an R5. Anyone know if these two are compatible? Or is it one of those things I shouldn't even waste my time with?

Thnx
