Can you tell me what I have?

Hello. I recently bought an awesome 1999 Z28. I will post a pic of it so it can be my new sig once I wash the car. It has all, and I mean all, the factory options, including the rare sports appearance package. (I heard it was rare on Z28's)

Anyway, when I bought the car, it had some mods done to it. All the dealer could tell me was that it was a new intake. I have no idea what it is. What mods do I have, and how much power do they give me? I know that I at least have a new airbox and I think an SLP oxygen sensor. Can you guys tell me exactly what I have?

Thank you so much in advance!!! I really hope you welcome me to your community.

Re: Can you tell me what I have?

Your new "lid" (The LS1 Motorsports piece) is worth perhaps 5-10 HP

Re: Can you tell me what I have?

looks like you have a wisper lid-which just eliminates the factory silencers on either side of the factory airbox, and also it looks like a new mass air flow sensor which i dont know how much its worth i have an lt1, you need to run some 4" a/c tubes from the scoops on your front bumper through the frame and up into the bottom of your airbox, that will give you about 60 hp at 100mph

I don't think that the intakes on the 99's were composite (cool word for plastic). I think you have the intake that came stock on 01's and 02's.

What?? 60 hp for Ram Air??? And why at 100 mph? Also I wonder what would happen it you hooked up an a/c line to your lid box from your a/c???? But the mechanics of it seem like it would work, AND be functional.

Re: Can you tell me what I have?

you have an aftermarket (LS1Motorsports/Quartermileperformance) Lid, and an SLP MAF. the MAF may have done more harm than good on the stock car. the Intake is stock, ALL ls1's had the composite/polymer intake, but the one on your car is a LS1 intake and the 2001+ had an LS6 intake that did not have EGR on the top (although I have seen some LS6 intakes that were made to have the EGR provisions).

I've heard something like that before. People wondering why nobody hooks up their heater blower motor to the engine. Basically, the blower motors are good for moving air but they suck at compressing it so it really wouldn't help at all.

oh, and Deadcarny, good call, I forgot all about the EGR thing.

Re: Can you tell me what I have?

well for one thing im pretty sure that the R134a or whatever that stuff is dont burn, and if it does prolly wont mix well with gas. now if you are talking about running cooler air in from the cab or something, unless you changed everything around it would be pointless cause the air would pick up too much heat traveling threw the engine bay, it wouldnt have any effect...

Understood...how about something to the intercooler effect, in the air box or something, that cools the air. (Just even about 20* cooler...nothing major) And about it not compressing the air...well cooler air is more dense (compressed) that warmer air anyway.

Re: Can you tell me what I have?

well my thought on that is: its been thought of before. the intercooler has been around for a very long while, and it has never been used on anything other than forced induction. i seriously doubt that any benefit would come from just strapping an intercooler in before the air box. it would probably restrict flow more than anything else...
