Re: my first car sketch murcielago

the rear scoops are a bit of to one side and the rear tire is twisted the passenger headlight looks crooked
but in al it looks good its just some minor touchups to get it right

Re: my first car sketch murcielago

I suppose you used this ref pic? http://www.fast-autos.net/lamborghini/murcielago3.html

In which case you drew it in a completely different perspective, which wont help. I don't know why you added the scoops, the're completely off. The shape looks a bit boxy aswell. I don't want to put you off, but if you struggle with the proportions on a car that you have reference to, I don't think your concepts are going to be anywhere near car design standard.

Saying all that, for a first try it isn't bad, and im sure with pracitice you will get much better. Just don't be dissapointed if your ambition doesn't happen; unless your really, really good, you don't stand much chance.

Re: my first car sketch murcielago

learn to construct objects in 3-d space with projection lines from a point on the horizon. start there. draw through the objects you carve out of boxes sitting on the plane.

you did not do this with the current drawing, even if you cleaned it up from a rough under-sketch. the under-sketch, if one exists, was not constructed on a plane with a horizon.

nice lambo

The car looks really good for your first try...dont listen to the guys that want to put you down on this thread...there are things here that are out of perspective...but you'll learn.

I do agree that you should use guidelines...try and look up on the internet the basics of drawing in perspective; teach yourself about vanishing points etc...

Car design is a very difficult thing to get into, but there many benifits you get from being able to draw, that might surface when your in the working world...

Id recommend getting the book "how to draw cars like a pro"

Practice makes perfect.

Re: my first car sketch murcielago

thanks, vector. that is awesome stuff. should be required reading for everyone. should be a preface or sticky here. a flashing billboard.

al, mike, can you sticky it or somehow put it in flaming bright neon at the forum home page? anything?

Re: my first car sketch murcielago

I didn't say quit! I meant you should keep drawing, but for the moment not in pursuit of a car design job. I just draw for the fun of it; but I realise that my concept drawings are pretty bad, and I have decided to take on the less drawing orientated route of architecture. If, through practicing you get really good, then by all means try and get the job, but all I was saying was that for now you should practice.

one more tip

Another tip i wanted to add...

If your unsure of how good your car looks when you finish drawing it...look at it in a mirror (or flip it around and look at it infront of a light). By seeing the mirror image of the car, you no longer have the bias opinion that everything is in perspective. In other words, you should look at it in the mirror and say "Damn! who drew that thing?" and if you dont, you probably got something out of perspective.

Re: my first car sketch murcielago

vec, you have an interesting style going on. your ellipses are funky sometimes, but you have a great look going on. very weird and inviting. stark lushness. that a dune buggy?
