Quick Brake Question!

Are the Z32 TT Calipers the same as the Z32 NA's? I always assumed they were... but my friend in Okinawa just came across some TT calipers and asked if I wanted them... don't wanna pass up the opportunity y'know?

Re: Quick Brake Question!

well, everybody that i have talked to say n/a rotors are 28mm and tt rotors are 30mm. but then when i ordered my rotors, they were 30mm and fit just fine into my calipers. and i ordered n/a rotors, so either they sent me the wrong size of rotors and one of the previous owners did a brake upgrade to tt brakes or they are the same size. that might help a little bit, sorry i don't have an exact answer.

Well the only real difference that I know of was that the earlier models were made from aluminum, which had problems with warping under heavy, repeated hard breaking, so they were switched to iron.

1990 N/A: Aluminum caliper, 280x26mm rotor
1990 TT and 1991-1992.5 (all models): Aluminum caliper, 280x30mm rotor
1992.5-1996 (all models): Iron caliper, 280x30mm rotor

I jacked that from www.nissanperformancemagazine.com, so thanks to them.

Also, theres this http://www.princeton.edu/~asad/zbrakes/

Re: Quick Brake Question!

So do you guys think the upgrade is even worth the effort?

Well since I can't find any seperate specs for NA and TT calipers I'm sort of thinking they're the same part. So it wouldn't really be an upgrade as much as it would be a lateral move. Unless you got irons and they were aluminums and you wanted to shed a few pounds per corner more or less at the expense of some caliper rigidty and strength, but unless you are heading to the track that won't really matter. Of course those scant few pounds aren't going to do much either. Best upgrade you can do with stock calipers is some slotted or cross drilled rotors and upgraded pads. For a huge increase in braking power, oversized after market calipers and rotors are required.

Re: Quick Brake Question!

yes, i just got slotted rotors and green stuff pads and my brakes are better. i still have yet to feel any fading. in everyday driving, you really don't need any bigger brakes. just get better pads and slotted or drilled rotors.

i have also heard that stainless steel brake lines are a good upgrade on the z do to those 10-15 year old rubber lines. they are not that expensive at all either.

www.conceptzperformance.com
www.ztuner.com

and some others have ready to ship upgrade kits. Specifically there is a complete bremo kit at Concept Z for $420 with steel lines, crossed drilled or slotted rotors and upgraded pads for all four corners. Also includes some slick DOT legal brake fluid.

Re: Quick Brake Question!

i am so mad now, i wish i knew of that brake kit from brembo before i bought my brakes. the kit is only $120 more than what i paid for for my brakes. and i only got front slotted rotors and pads, not rear rotors and pads, no stainless steel lines, and no brake fluid. oh that makes me so mad.
