Ricers...and the people who hate them.

You know what? I personally think its really shitty of all of you, that you immediatly slap a label of "Ricer" on someone, because of the things they choose to do to their cars.

How childish can you be? What have you done that's such a great favor to the world that you get to be a bad ass, with your carbon fiber hood, and your H22 series engine swap?

lets take your average kid.....he's 17 years old
loves the import scene, and wants to have his own car.

(this is what I've gathered that you all hate)

this kid gets a 1993 Honda Civic, puts a loud exhaust on it, a decent set of wheels, an APC sticker, maybe a fire extinguisher on the inside, and an aluminum spoiler. If he can afford it, a set of euro tails and/or projector headlights....and maybe some F&F floor mats from Autozone, a F&F steering wheel cover, and maybe even some F&F seat covers.

now he's thrilled with this, who are you to tell him that it sucks? I don't understand why you people constantly try to make everyone else feel like shit about the fact they are trying to have something nice.

I promise you, if everybody who loved the import scene had enough money to do a H22 series swap, a turbo, intercooler, blow off valve, bad ass body kit, and lots of interior goodies...they would...and those cars you guys seem to hate so much wouldn't exist.

but, not everyone has a lot of money...so why try to make them feel like shit about something they love? I mean come on....seriously.

personally my opinion of a rice would be, stickers+, huge spoiler, anything a differant color than the rest of their car, like a blue car with green neons, and a monstrosity of a body kit
then thinking it all looks cool and makes it faster

You have a point man. Everybody should do whatever they want to their car, if it makes you feel good, or look good in your opinion, then go for it. You are the one driving it and paying for it. I dont hate ricers, some things just dont look good IMO but everyone has their one life.

It's all about the mindset. It's kids who put all those things in or on their cars and then talk sh*t about how fast their cars are. There are a lot of people who put tens of thousands of dollars into their cars to make them show quality and have their stock motors in there, are they ricer? Most of the time no. Most people here believe in function over form. If you put a ton of things on your car you're clearly looking for attention, and you can't expect to always get good attention. And most of that stuff you listed...APC=junk, F&F stuff=junk, aluminum wing does nothing for aerodynamics=junk, loud exhaust does nothing but annoy people and pretend that the car is fast=junk, euro tails leak water like crazy unless you buy the expensive ones then still there's a chance they will leak=junk, fire extinguisher unless you have a real reason to NEED one=junk. There are tons of people that have all that stuff on their cars (everyone and their mother), and they have no purpose other than "looks". So if you have an attitude where you tell everyone your car is the bomb or you try to act kool because you have all that stuff on your car, than you can't expect everyone to buy into it. And the average 17yr old kid who does that stuff get's labled a Ricer because they clear just did that stuff because they watched stupid movies like F&F (which gives out false info and get everyone with an import harassed by cops) and it just shows that they know nothing about cars. And it's not just people with imports, there are cavaliers, neons, s10's, you name it; everyone's seen it riced out. And it's not like all of us don't get sh*t too. I guarentee there is no one on this board who hasn't had some jackass with a domestic car talks sh*t because he thinks all imports suck. And you know why they say they suck? It's because of all the ricers who talk sh*t about their cars and think they are the bomb when in reality they get eaten on the road by base model cavaliers all day long. It's about attitude and how you present yourself that matters. And if it bug someone that others are making comments about the way they added to their cars then it sounds to me like they are the ones with the problems.

Not to mention this is a public forum. If you are going to post pics of your car, ask peoples opinions about your car or what mods to do, then you better be able to take the good with the bad. Most of the people i've seen on here prefer performance first, and looks second. So if you get someone on here bragging about how he has a wicked sounding fart can, S2K taillight conversion, and led wiper nozzles, and thinks his car owns the road when he has a bone stock 115-hp engine under the hood, of course he's going to get flamed and lbe abeled a ricer. Judging by how upset you seeed to be when you started this thread, i'd say someone's comments hit a little too close to home for you.

let me tell you about me....I had a 1997 Honda Civic EX, bone stock motor, I had a custom 2.5" exhaust, with a medium size magnaflow muffler. I had a black widow body kit, front, rear and sides....a luggage rack where a spoiler should have been, 17" KMC Guido chrome rims, a respectable stereo system, APC Gen3 Euro Lights, Blue Ion Headlights, an Ichibahn shift knob and an APC sticker on my back window, and an Ichibahn sticker across the front.

I was that far when my car got totaled, I had a complete setup in mind for it, I was going to do the black widow hood, a Universal GTR Spoiler, Z3 fenders which I still have, in my closet downstairs, a DC Sports Header, which I still have, in my closet downstairs. I was also going to buy a DC Sports DAC, a new valve cover, an engine hose dress kit, redo my interior in green/black vinyl, custom NSX cuts, then a complete wide body conversion w/fender flares....I would have eventually done a lambo door conversion, suicide trunk, suicide hood and remote starter/entry system. That would have been it...and I would have been happy with that car.

I never talked shit about how fast my car was, or tried to show off in front of everyone...I bought that car, and built what I had, just for the fact I liked the way it looked.

Guess what, before I saw Fast and Furious, I had no idea the import scene even existed, but I fell in love when I saw it. Now, not only am I an import consultant and I help people get products to build cars with, for cheaper prices than you can find most anywhere else, I also advise on what looks good and what doesn't.

I have right now, a 1995 Nissan Altima SE w/a custom 2.5" exhaust pipe, an Apexi N1 muffler, a Nismo Down Pipe, spray painted white wheels, spray painted white grill, an Ichibahn shift knob, APC Gen4 euro tails, Nismo Floor Mats, Nismo Indiglo Gauges and that's pretty much it.

By your standards, that's a ricer car.

now, I'm doing all of that purely for the fact that I like it, and I want THAT car, no other car BUT that car.....a lot of shit on there (mostly LED, lowering springs, etc) you call ricer shit...I personally like how it looks.

My poor little Altima has very little chance of breaking 300hp even with a supercharger, which I also plan to do much much later....and why should someone like me feel bad about this car?

True. True. There will always be guys like me who call guys like Apex ricers, and just like civic spoon said, there will always be someone else to tell me how much MY car sucks, too. And that's not just Chevy or Ford drivers, by the way, that's ricers, too: "Yo, man, you should put some real rims on that thing" (I have 14" Honda rims, not big enough or chrome enough for the ricer scene). But I don't care. I'm not going to run out and get 17" spinners just because some kid in an '89 Accord thinks I should. I love my car. Which reminds me about the issue of money. Most of us on here aren't filthy rich. Otherwise we'd be over on the Porsche forum or something. I bought my civic my first year in the Marines, when I didn't have shit. If you're that poor, then leave it stock for crying out loud. Very few people look at a normal, stock civic driving down the road and laugh. Throw some "sponsor" stickers and a wing on it, and you've actually spent money to have people give you shit.
But if that's what's important to you, that's fine. If you love your car, you don't have to care what other people say. But we're still going to say it.

hey i understand where Apexigod is coming from...cause its like people would rather take the time out to post something bad when they can just let it pass...but fact of the matter is u ask for it when u do these things...if ur gonna make a flashy "rice" car then u gotta realize that some people are gonna have bad opinions...its a part of life with anything...but u cant let this stuff get to you...if you think your car is hot, thats all that matters...me personally i dont care too much for all types of body kits, makes my car a target to thiefs...but look haters are everywhere, gotta watch out for them

How can you not make fun of the civic tooling down the road driven by a kid who modded the car just like everyone else would. What is with the wing anyway? That is such a huge waste of money. Nothing wrong with liking your car, but you didn't make it any faster and that kinda makes you like a fashion expert for cars. You would expect someone to poke fun at you for that.

I think CivicSpoon is right when he says that it’s all about mind set. For some reason when a lot of kids get their first ride and start doing up their car, some sort of high testosterone macho bullshit comes over them. God knows I’m done the same thing when I was a kid. They start trying to vanquish everyone beside them at the traffic lights, peeling out of the parking spot at AutoZone, and just plain driving like a dickhead. That’s where the ricers aura comes from. After a while as far as the cops and Joe citizen are concerned everyone who’s got a coffee can exhaust is a ricer. It ruins it for everyone. And as far as the cops are concerned whose chops do you think they would rather bust? A ricer, or a bunch or drug dealers on the corner? (OK, off topic). Anyway, it’s just like the hippies of the 70’s or the sportbike riders of today. One bad apple spoils the bunch.
