Yup! 2.02 intake valves and 1.60 exhaust with screw in studs and guide plates!

well, here is the dealio...these heads have the casting number for the 71 -72 LT1 corvette engine...but I got them off an ol' Chris Craft 327, they are in beautiful shape and no doubt have somewhat low hours of use consider it was a boat motor. I'm not all too familiar with guide plates..but to be honest, I didn't see anything that would even represent a guide plate...so that is the reason for my question..
off the top of my head, i believe the casting was 3973487...anyway suggestions to see if they are actually screw in studs...or should you be able to tell visually?
any thoughts?

another question,
how much lift can the stock valve springs handle before binding...i know the stock cam had around the .440 lift...i'd like .480...is that possible?

Re: '71 LT1 heads

guide plates would be included with a screw in stud that looks like a regular bolt, meaning the stud itself would have a shoulder that you could put a deep socket on. if the studs are of earlier design no shoulder would be visible to put a wrench / socket on. to my knowledge there would be some difficulty in visibly being able to see if they are threaded in (the older style) the machining proccess is quite straightforward. all a guide plate is, is a steel plate that acts as a pushrod guide, it is also held down by the shoulder type screw in studs. I'll have to look up the lift specs when I get home tonight. hope that helps!

Re: '71 LT1 heads

.50 is absolutey possible, you shouldn't go more than that without some more serious mods. I have been using a roller cam with over .480 lift for some years with really great results! all the Honda boyz hate me!!!
