TT engine (deal???)

i was talking to this guy that owns a TT and he is looking to sell his engine with all the intercooler piping, intercoolers, radiator, basically everything except the tranny. anyways...he said he blew a rod in the engine because he was a dumbass and was tryin to push the boost a little too far but has not tried to turn it over or anything. has been parked since this happened. What all could this rod have taken out and how much would this cost to fix u think? he said we could work out a trade for the engine i have in my N/A because he needs an engine that is in good running condition for a core charge for some other motor he wants to get. tell me what you guys think.

Re: TT engine (deal???)

That would be the DUMBEST thing you will ever do...

Think about it man? You have any idea how hard it will be to break that thing down to basics, and replace a rod?!

... Just buy a damn clip, they're not that much.

That deal sounds sketchy.

Re: TT engine (deal???)

the deal sounds sketchy but what is so hard about replacing a rod? and with the engine not in the car it would be a peice of cake.

First off, it will never be just a rod replacement. Bent valves, scored cylinder walls and torn up crank just to name a few. Basically you should go into the project considering the engine as dead and only valuable for the parts around it. If the block is good with no cracks or major damage then you can rebuild it, the cost for which you can buy an engine that doesn't have various internal parts in more pieces then they should be. But if you are going to rebuild it with upgraded whirly bits then this might be the way to go. Just know what you are getting into. I have the pictures of my old block, with about 10 square inches missing from the side, just above the oil pan. And the fragmented piston that got loose, still connected to rod thats ripped in half. Such is engine damage.

you have pictures of that engine with a hole in it you say? i wanna see what it looks like. it is never good when something breaks internally.
