02 accent and warrenty

Hi all i am new to this forum, and have somequestions
1. What have been you experiences with the warrenty, good? bad?
2. What is the minimal maintence required to keep the areenty valid?
I have done the oil changes (unfortunataly i did not keep all the receipts) but i am now up to 36k, and still have the 30k maintence to do. But i have had my air filrter changed when i got my oil done.
3. Are there any defects i should be looking out for, in a 2002 accent?
so far my car has been GREAT, i am just worried about the future
thanks

If you have any major engine problems, Hyundai will want oil change receipts. Follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual. If you have an automatic, and you haven't changed the fluid yet, it's highly recommended you do that at 30k miles. Make sure you use only Hyundai fluid (also used by Mitsubishi and Kia). Any other atm fluids (Dextron III, ATF+3, Type-F) will void the transmission warranty.

Welcome to the forum illusion123a

lowsonomoma answered most of your questions and I'll just add my own experiences. The warranty is great, and my dealership fixed my window runner that was messed up without a problem as well as the seat buckle. Nothing major, but this all depends on the dealership you are working with. Some are better in diagnosing a major problem than others. So far I have a good dealership/service department.

If you continue to to your own oil changes thats fine, just start holding on to the reciepts from now on, on any other service you do on the vehicle. This way you are covered.

On the Hyundai Webtech site, you can look up your model and engine type and it will give you back a listing of the Technical Service bulletins for the model in question.

Enjoy your Accent and again welcome to the forum.

Okay straight from the horses (Hyundais) mouth.

Go here to download the Hyundai Factory Schedule adobe pdf file, (just right click and select save as and download it to your pc). The adobe file shows what the dealership does. Anything not on that list is extra fluff that the dealership is trying to put on you.

Note you will need to have Adobe Acrobat reader to view the file. Acrobat Reader can be found at the Adobe website.

As for prices it all depends on where you live, i can give you a price range of NYC but that means nothing for someone out west or in Canada etc. To find out the average in your area, just call up the Hyundai dealerships in your area say about a 25 mile radius and see what the average price is for that service. In NYC its a bit more than that if I remember correctly, I would have to look at the forms at home to be sure.

Severe driving is also another relative term that can be taken out of context. I believe in your vehicle ownership manual it describes the meaning of severe driving. (I do not have my owners manual at hand to tell you), but if it applies to your driving then its sever, if not the checkups can be more relaxed. But do not quote me on that cause I am no dealer/service person. Maybe lowsonoma1999 would be able to answer that question more better.

Re: 02 accent and warrenty

Thaks you have ebbn so helpful, i actually called the hyundai dealership that is clooser to my home (i choose not to buy there becasue I have heard bad things about them) but i called and they actually have a much lower price 225 and tax, and they do only what is required in the book, i guess as long as i have the signature in my manual I should be ok.

One word of advise, regardless of price I believe that all vehicle owners take some time to visit numerous service departments and just hang out for a few minutes or so to check out the place. See if there are any complaints from the customers in the waiting area. Ask if they have been here beofre and get a short and quick survey of the service. If you like it and the price is fine then go with that service dept.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Okay I just looked at my dealerships price list and for the 30K its between 429.95 - 515.95 depending on the cylinder of teh engine. Yikes, So I guess 375 looks fine by me, but again thats for NYC prices. My friend who lives in Central PA tells me that Freysinger Hyundai in Mechanicsburg, PA is a good service place, Frederick Hyundai in Lebanon PA is too. The one place he recommends not going too is Mearing Hyundai in East Petersburg near Lancaster, PA

I'll report back if I get any other info.

Re: 02 accent and warrenty

thats funny yopu said that, the place that gave me the 375 quote was Merig (thats where i bought my car) I was able to get a much lower price at frederick. I was against Feredick becasue when i was looking to buy my car they gave me a much higher price. Thank you so much, and as a side note i was able to get most of my oil change records, I had been taking my car to the wal-mart T&L, so they were able to give me a copy of my records, the only ones i dont have are a few oil changes i got while i was in college.
Is there a reason why your friend dosen't like merig?

Well he says its word of mouth/general knowledge from the general public, the thing is that they have great prices in selling vehicles but in service he hears lots of horrible things. I wouldn't know, I am only going by what he tells me. Maybe other members here have a different opinion if they have dealt with the place.

Its funny you mention that you got a better deal at Frederick (the place he takes his Santa Fe) cause to him its great service but on the pricer side. See you can never tell. Like I said, if you have the time, go visit them and see if you like what you see and hear.

Good luck.
