85 firebird 2.8 mpfi won't run

Sorry for this I am working on a friends car and the story is about 6 months ago he started having run problems then it stopped running it would spitt and sputter but not run so I checked the timming chain and found 12 degrees play well it sat for 2 months before he could aford to put it in after we installed the chain we could not get it to fire we verified the timing and spark all good. It dose seem to be flooding Ichecked the coolant temp sensor and it changes ohms for different temp but I dont' know the spec for it. Has anyone else ever had a problem similar any help would be greatly appreciated.
