Noise coming from my amp
Recently I've noticed a noise coming from my amplifier. I have a Kicker subwoofer that is attached to an El Capitan Rocky series amp in my trunk there is a hissing/ringing noise that is coming from my amp. I began noticing the sound after my alarm was installed but I don't think the guy messed with the amp at all. The weird thing is that after about 5 minutes of hissing/ringing, it stops so I don't know what it could be. Do you guys have any idea? Is my amp broken???

Re: Noise coming from my amp
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was. I never heard the noise until recently so I'm assuming that the grounding is fine.

Re: Noise coming from my amp
You mean the amp itself is making the noise or noise is comming out into the subs? I too would bet a ground issue. Most people have no idea what a loose ground or a ground put over a metal area can cause.

Re: Noise coming from my amp
Yeah, it's the amp that's making the noise. Some people that I've talked to said that it's probably just warming up or something but I'll recheck the grounding again. It's grounded to a bolt next to the amp. Thanks.

Re: Noise coming from my amp
sounds like an internal amp problem... i would open it up and see if you see anything that is fried inside, what sounds like is happening is there is something wrong with it making it run hard all the time and thats why it is over heating... this is assuming your ground is good. A resistor might be bad.. post back.

Re: Noise coming from my amp
Okay, so today I was messing around with my amp and so forth and I realized that when my music is on, there's nothing coming out of my amp. Dumb question but umm....music is supposed to come out of the amp right?
So then I go and check my subwoofer and I can BARELY hear anything coming out of that. You guys have any idea what's going on? Is my amp broken? How about my sub?

Re: Noise coming from my amp
Music isnt supposed to come out of ur amp.. the easiest thing u can do is to take it to an audio shop an let them take a look at it or just buy another one

Re: Noise coming from my amp
ponchonutty, the amp is El Capitan Rocky Series and I have a sub woofer. I checked the fuses today and the fuses are fine so I'm kinda lost still. Any thoughts?
Stealth, music isn't supposed to come out of the amp? Hmm....what does the amp do then? Hehe I'm clueless obviously. :oP Yeah, I could take it to the shop but I know they'll automatically say that it's broken and that I'll have to get a new one. So I'm just trying to figure out if it's really broken before I do that. ![]() Thanks fellas. |

Re: Noise coming from my amp
Okay, there's 2 buttons: a red one and a green one. The green one says protection and the red one says power level low input. The red button is on...does that mean anything?
A lot of people that I've spoken with said that they think that the wiring is super bad and that I should try to rewire the power cable. As my friend said, the people who installed it did a shitty job. What do you guys think? |
