I was reading up on the internet on the throttle blade in my 98 chevy s10, and I noticed you can buy a replacement high flow throttle blade which takes out the stock blade with the restrictor.
Now my question is, if I was to replace it, is this a good or bad thing? and what would I get out of it in terms of power, and tourqe if any. Any better gas millage. And would this damage anything? Thanks |

Re: Throttle Body Question?
you will get nothing out of it. the maf sensor tells the computer how much air flow is coming into the engine and puting that bigger throttle body on will not do anything. the key to trying to get hp out of a computer controlled vehicle is all in the programming of the computer. you can put all the goodies on your vehicle such as a bigger maf sensor, bigger throttle body, intake, etc but if the computer doesnt know its there it is just a waste of money and you also lose fuel mileage. if you program the computer with these modifications then the engine can take advantage of these modifications. be warned! dont expect a massive increase in hp. you might get 20 extra hp from full exhaust, throttle body, maf, intake, etc. and you will probably spend a better part of 2000.00 to get that 20 hp. so its probable not worth it. there is only so much you can modify and still have it be emission/street legal. my recommendation to you is if your looking for big power your better off spending your money on a supercharger/turbocharger kit.

Re: Throttle Body Question?
your o2 sensor will compensate for the airflow and you will not be running lean. it wont do a thing for performance.

Quote:
Don't use it, you will lean out your front cylinders. It is there for a reason. Most people that have used that throttle plate are unhappy with it. Yours is fine. Spend your money on a better intake/filter and a better muffler. |
