2004 Malibu Airbag Warning Light

I have had my Chevrolet 2004 Malibu for 2 months now and it has been taken back for service twice. Both times were for the Airbag warning light that would not extingush. The first time it stayed on after start up and would not go out with the other idiot lights. The second time it went on while I was driving.
The first time they said it was a loose connection. The second time they said they did not know why it was on, but after disconnecting the battery and all power and then reconnecting , the light went out. They called the Chevrolet technical assistance team and ask them what was up. The team ask them to ask me if I ever jump started the car, or jumped started anybody else. I responded no, because I did'nt. Anyway, what if I did?. I don't think they have the answer, and I'm sure I'll be back again. The car has 345 miles on it.
Two questions, has anyone had this problem on the Malibu or any other car?
Second do I have any options if they can't fix it? Thanks everyone .

Re: 2004 Malibu Airbag Warning Light

I know that your dealer won't take input from an anonymous poster on Internet :P but they likely had fault codes associated with your light coming on. If these were communication faults by other modules set against the airbag module I would suggest they replace the airbag module (aka SDM).

Now that the Malibu has just become GMs best-selling car line, you can bet that GM will be working feverishly to fix first-year bugs.

Thanks to e2's advice, I'm now awaiting a fix for my Maxx's funky fuel guage, which I hope should be out by Labor Day.

Unless the car is clearly a lemon (not from what you've told us), you just have to put up with a delay in fixing first-year glitches and be patient.

Well it's happened again. 3,200 miles on the odometer and the airbag warning light is back on. I've made another appointment to have it serviced, ( 3rd time ). I'm going to insist that they replace the module this time. Has anyone else had this problem? 2004 Malibu LT. Thanks Bob.

Doesn't the lemon law apply after 3 instances for the same item?

Interesting, I don't know, but I'm sure going to find out.
