87 Camry stalls on accelleration

Have a 1987 Toyota Camery, 2.0L, EFI w/5-speed and 96K mi. I have only owned this vehicle a little over a month but I've recently had a problem with the vehicle stalling. About two weeks ago I left for work in the morning, It started good but about a mile away got stopped by a light and when I gave it gas to take off, it stalled. It would start immediately if I did not gave it gas but once gas was applied it would stumble and stall. If I started it, let it run for a couple of minutes (not hitting the accelerator peddle), I could "slowly" give it gas until it ran better. If you were to accelerate fast it would stumble and stall. After carefully driving it back home (about 1 mi) it ran normal again. To me this seemed like a fuel(or air)related problem (not electrical). I replaced the fuel filter and for the last two weeks it ran good till last Friday, it did the same thing. The car has new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter. I checked the engine electrical system and the only problem I found was that the primary side of the coil showed about 1.1 ohms instead of .5 ohms (per the book). Normally the engine runs smooth and strong..It goes thru some oil but it seems to be valve seals, which I understand to be a common problem. I don't know if this is a common Toyota problem but any ideas would be a big help. Thanks
GM

A weak coil would give these symptoms.

I had an 89 corolla that had a very similar problem. It would sputter upon acceleration. Turns out it was a misfiring cylindar. Problem solved when I replaced the distributor wires that run from the cap to the plugs. Easy and cheap to do yourself, autozone or the like will have it in stock for about $10, takes 1 minute to install. GL
