Question D16Z6 swap into 1989 Civic Si

I know this is the millionth time but my 89 civic has D16a6. I just got a D16Z6 Sohc 1.6L and wonder if the swap is worth the effort. Also the wiring is cut and chopped so bad I'm afraid to take the thing out. Is there another way other than buying Honda Manual to figure out what is supposed to be where?? This engine is non V-tech I've seen the cam. It was never shipped to US in a car so I assume someone bought it from JDM supplier. I was told it makes about 130 horse and the D16 108.I've seen so many postings regarding OBDO and Obd1 retro's I'm sooooo confused please advise me properly. This car is in awesome shape and I'm ready to put some $ into it but I want Sohc no trouble!!!

David

What makes you think your z6 is nonvtec? Its suppose to say it right on the valve cover. If yours doesn't say vtec then you could possibly have a y8 on your hands, but im not sure. But what I am sure of is that y8's are OBD2. Hope i didnt confuse you more.

Re: D16Z6 swap into 1989 Civic Si

yea there are SOHC Vtec and the d16z6 is one of them. I dont think i've ever seen a z6 thats non vtec. and I'll back smokey up on the fact that not all motors say vtec on the vavle cover. the wiring diagrams; I'd say buy a book, but you can find everything you need on the internet if you research and spend the time to do it. To figure out if you have a y8 or z6, why dont you just look at whats stamped on the block? it should say d16z6 or d16y8, b18c5 or b18c!
