how often change spark plug wires?

Son has a 92 Integra GS with 152,000 miles on it. Looks it still has the original wires. Although we see no specific evidence they need to be changed, he thinks they should be replaced. Interested in any advice on this.

well they should be replaced every 12k...so around every 15k I would SAY....but no MORE THE 15k...

also u can buy Stock one's so they might of replaced them with stock one's....

check the wires with a digital ohm reader, or whatever they're called, to find out their resistance.

With that many miles I bet new ones will make the car run smoother, but no spark plug wires make horsepower, unless your old ones were pretty worn out.

SBallerk2, thanks for the reply, but I have to disagree with you. The interval you suggested is just not necessary. My son bought the car when it had about 90K miles on it. He has never changed plug wires and, as I said, the car seems to be running OK. Also, since starting this forum thread, I've read some info on two web sites, one recommending new plug wires every time spark plugs are changed, and the other, which happens to be a web page of Advance Auto Parts, suggests "Generally, at the manufacturer's recommended tune-up intervals where the plugs are replaced, or at five years (60,000 mile tune-up) or seven years (100,000 mile tune-up), even when the plugs don't necessarily need to be changed due to age alone."

The manufacturer's recommended interval for replacing plugs in this car is 30K miles. Regarding "Ignition Wiring", the owner's manual says Inspect it every 60K miles.

I wouldn't be surprised if these wires are the originals. They have the cylinder printed on them, when is a sign of OEM wires. Of course, the originals could have been replaced with OEM wires.

So, sure looks to me like the wires need to be replaced no more often than 60K miles.

We don't have that tool, and I don't know whether we'll buy one, but I think I'll see how much they cost and find out more about how to use them.

u can get a multimeter (ohms, volts, current) at radio shack

Nology hotwires are the best. I put them on my 91 recently and it runs smoother. of course at $150 itebetter work right. Expensive bastards

I'd definately suggest replacing the wires and plugs. If they're OEM parts, then they could have been replaced w/ OEM's, but even still, the car just topped 150k, and so it wouldn't be hurting anything. (better safe than sorry eh?)

IMO, don't waste your money on expensive wires, just got out and buy either the OEM ones, or a $30-40 set from a local shop. The car isn't going to see any gains from a more expensive wire, so why waste the money?
