My stock '80 got closer to 17 MPG with the stock Q-jet! The setup (before I got creative) was L-48 350 with the 4 speed manual transmission. I know the rear gears on the '80 were waaaay different than on the 78 and 79. Something about the fuel milage requirements of the EPA or CIA or ..... So If you have a relatively short rear gear (drag racer) you may only get 10-12 miles per if you drive it hard. I still think even with the Edelbrock carb you could do better. I would check fuel float settings and fuel pressure. Also the coil in the HEI distributors can be a real pain. Check that too.

Re: 78 vette mpg

Seems pretty high. The 180 degree thermostat should keep the car at or around 200 degrees in traffic. Do you have the skinny radiator or the 4 row big boy that came stock with big block cars?
