Need help on interior painting

I've never tried painting any type of interior, so i'm very new at this. I read somewhere that you need to sand the surface of the dash, is that really needed? also for those who have done it, is there a brand i should ask for and if you have any pictures to show me how yours came out, please upload!!! i would also like some suggestions on which parts of the dash/door/panel to paint to make it look hot. i have a green 96 RS (yes the one with the smily face) and i'm just bored of it looking plan.

Re: Need help on interior painting

Sanding is up to you...i like to sand just a little bit but that is my personal preference. At least wash the pieces with warm soapy water and let them FULLY DRY before adding paint.

yeah

The best thing would be to just get like 800 sandpaper. Then wet dry sand it to a few strokes until it feels really smooth.

Re: Need help on interior painting

I am doing my interior right now and duplicolor works the best...as for primer or not i have done both and there isn't any difference. On sanding it depends on how you want the surface...some people just take a 400 grit to it just to get the paint to stick better then clean it off with rubbing alcohol then paint. I like mine smooth...makes for a better shine so i go from 400 to 2000 and all the numbers in between...takes a long time but it looks great! For steps...wash it really good with warm soapy water, let dry, sand, clean off, sand, until you have it like you want, then you can use primer but i wouldn't, hasn't made a difference with mine...then i put on real light coats, make sure its dry after each coat check for rough spots and if needed ya can sand lightly again, after done painting put on coats of clear coat, that gives it a great shine but make sure the paint is dry completely first...some ppl sand after the first coat of clear, i tried it and didn't do much so its up to you...but clear helps keep it from scratching easily and also makes it easier to wipe down when dusty.

Re: Need help on interior painting

well i have light and dark gray interior, my engine bay is kinda blue so i am painting my interior white accented in areas with blue. If you look at EclipseRST gallery, he has his up and also has the mitsu logo, probably used a stencil. It looks pretty tight though, for colors its personal preference or you can use it to go with the outside of ur car.
