Best engine

Just wondering what the best engine would be for a 1980 F100. It has the 302 in it right now. Looking for the best performance.

Buy a brand new 5.4L V8 straight out of the crate from Ford. Best motor in the business.

Re: Best engine

I have the 302 in my 93. I had a 1980 with the 300 6. The 6 cylinder is better than the 5L 8. Performance wise the 351 would be best. I wish I had the 300.

That would depend on a lot of things. I'm running a 5.8 with 3.55 gears 4X4 and a trailer package. I'm told the package includes a stall converter Approx. 10 % more stall than regular. I only get 11 MPG. whether empty or full of green firewood stacked to the cab roof. Just put 2 grand in the engine on rebuild to.

Well putting that in a oldre truck would be a nightmare at best.

I would opt for a 460 0.030" over and 10.5:1 pistons with a cam from a '69 and an Al dual plane intake with a 600 CFM carb for the best overall performance. GREAT Tq, and very respectable power for under $2000.

Depending on the gears, up to 16 MPG.

Re: Best engine

i would say run a 390, i have one 13 mpg if you drive it normally. All i have is 10:1 comp comp 941 cam, headers, edelbrock intake and carb, great running motor, but you would have to change you tranny if you had an auto or bellhousing if you have a manual. 351 winsor is a great motor also, if built right you can see the 500 mark on natural asperation.

Re: Best engine

The 351 Cleveland is the best.Forget about gas mileage though. Pre 1973 Cleveland that is.
