Red face how do I take the the govenor off ?

I have a 2004 2.2 cavalier.my fuel shuts off at 110 mph. I have asked everyone how to disable this feature and no one knows how to do that. some one told me to put a toggle switch on the line from the trany but that doesn't seem like it would help.anyone know how to do this????

Unless youve got some mods on the car (lowered, new tires, etc, etc, etc) I woulnd't reccromend you taking the gov. off.

If you do have these mods you better have proof (pictures)! Thats about the only way you will find out how on these forums!

ok, i tell you, but first of all i wont be held resposible for anything you do. Second of all, they are right, do not go faster than the limiter if you have stock wheels and tires... at least tires... there is a reason for the limiter (besides the fact that you are probly breaking the law if you ever get to that point).

There are a few ways i know of. First one is the easy and probly safest way to do it, have you chip reflashed. Second, and this works on s-10s, i dont know about the cavalier, right as you get to the limiter, but havent got to it yet, you let off the gas and then press it again, i guess it tricks the computer and you can get past the limiter (i cant garentee that this works). The other way is dangerous. You put a switch inline with one of the wires going to the sensor on your tranny. When the switch is on the "on" position, everyhting works normaly, when you flip it, the speedometer will drop to "0" and you can go as fast as you want. DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE AUTOMATICS, if you cut the wire to the automatics, i beleive they wont shift and that isnt any good.

Again, I wont be held responsible for your stupid mistakes. I tell you this becuz knowledge is power. If you are not racing in a sactioned race track or something to that effect, leave your cars limiter alone. I would recommend NOT doing this mod and just having you chip reflashed.

Later

since knowledge is power and such... would you mind explaining what exactly you are cutting, and how it is making your car go faster than designed?
thank you

Re: how do I take the the govenor off ?

alright, heres the deal dood, ok, on my s-10 i am governed at 94 mph, i can go about 115 after the wire is cut... Im not sure how fast a cav will go. The wire go's to a plug in your tranny (im assuming the tranny in the cav have the same plugs as the s-10 trannys) and is a sensor that tells the computer how fast the gears r goin and then it gos to your speedo... when you cut the wire the computer cant read the sensor and then yeah, im sure you understand why it works from there...

Re: how do I take the the govenor off ?

umm unless you have suspension and break upgrades this is pointless. The stock breaks can not handle speeds high that that SAFLY. Just post your name and wher eyou live so I can stay clear or kick your ass when you hurt some one.

and don;t tell me its for the track becuase unless you are putting about 300hp at the wheels you'll never hit 110 by the end sof the 1/4 so basically you have no need for this.

Not being a smart ass but its a major safty issue.

Maybe you should spend your money on something more worthwhile, though the suspension would be good anyway.

Why would you take the gov off without mods to make it worth while? Is it worth the risk of a ticket...or worse an accident?

ok, i said it is for the track.... i would hope if you are going to the track you have more than a stock car... and the guy right above me just proved a good point... a super/turbocharged cav can exceed the 110 mph mark....

Re: how do I take the the govenor off ?

you do know that the VSS mod is illegal to do and will instantly as soon as you flick that switch give your car a 0 dollar resale value? With one flick of a switch you make your car worthless? Its called odometer fraud if you ever try to sell the car with actual milage.
