electrical problem

hello all. i have this problem, my mom is giving me her gp if i can fix it.
here it is when ever the car is running and the headlights get turned on ,the lights will start to flutter and then moments later it will die, i mean the car will stall and will not start as if the battery went dead.
when at first she told me about it i was like the alternator is bad. she said she had it checked at autozone and they said it was fine. then i was like well then its the battery she said they checked that to and it was fine. so then i was thinking to myself that i used to have the same problems on my bike when the regulator was going bad. so i had her call autozone to see if they had one in stock and they were like, well if you had your alternator checked and it was ok then the vr is fine also.i checked the wires around the battery everything looks fine . now im stumped. and also when the lights start to flicker so does the dash and the clock. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me like bad battery cables. Even if they are not loose they can be corroded and produce alot of resistance.

Re: electrical problem

Did Auto Zone check the alternator on the car or did she take in the store and test it on the bench tester?? If she had the alternator off the car and had it tested on the bench, the regulator could still be bad. The bench test machines by-pass the regulator, so that's not a definite. If it was tested on the car, that machine would check the regulator as well, and I would look at the battery test/jump start post to see if you have some corrosion there. The battery test post is located on the drivers side of the engine compartment behind the battery, it has a red plastic cover over it

I had the same problem with my 94 grandprix gt mine was the computer module wires they were rusty and corroded and i cleaned all the rust off now it works great. And here I spent 800.00 for a new alternator and battery and i thought that was it. I WAS MAD!

I am seeing a similar problem with fluttering lights and voltage. Where is the computer module located, I will check mine.

Thanks.

Re: electrical problem

Teh computer module on your car is under the hood, on the passenger side, beneath the radiator overflow bottle. Another good place to look for corrosion is the underside of the underhood relay center, located on the passenger side between the fender and the underhood brace that goes from the strut tower to the radiator support.
