power window troubles on a '95
Just bought our first camaro ('95) into the family for my son...she's a beauty, but we've hit a problem already and hope someone can offer advice: the power windows don't want to work consistently. They start, then stop midway, then start again a few tries later. It feels like a power problem, but no other electronic devices seem effected. Any ideas?

i'd say the switch itself is faulty.

Re: power window troubles on a '95
trsut me i know whats going on i havea 95' z28 with power windows also, the thing is you need a new window motor for $100 from a chevy dealer, dont know how much it is to install it but i did it my self, its easy, take off the door panels, then unscrew the motor, and unscrew the speaker and take the motor out of the hole that the speaker came from and then put in your new one through the speaker hole and screw it back in, and put your speaker back in, and put your door panel back on. that has happened to my driver door motor, now its starting to happen again to my passenger door lol, but once you do it it works perfect like brand new.
Good Luck! |

Dang ... Just couldn't be the switch. My drivers side window on my 95 Z28 just started that going up and stopping and so on and so on. But like everything else I'm going to wait to the very last minute to do anything about it and it's probably going to be raining.

Its the motor, Its best to do it yourself, and it isnt to hard i did my first about a week ago. the motor runs for a good 50 dollors give or take. It is best to find one with a life time warrenty. all you gotta do is unscrew the door panal and remove it, take off the plastic and drill the old motor out and screw the new one in, takes about Two hours....at least it took me about two hours. The motor bolts are hidden behind the fiberglass inside. take the speaker out to get a better view with a compact mirror or something...Go here, it is completly detaild on how to remove and replace. it helped me out a good bit...

Re: power window troubles on a '95
From what you are having happen this is the Power Window Motor for sure... You can pick some up antwhere from $35 to $60 at the parts store...
This is a link to help you step by step when replacing the motor... Caution if you have a problem with drilling holes in the door panel to do this do not use this method... I have done this to both my Z28's with no problems and best of all it's real easy to change the motor out if it happens again... http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html |

thanks for the advice everyone...I'm zeroing in on the switch, because both windows are doing the same thing, unless my luck is really bad and both motors went at the same time. To CAW333...I usually follow that strategy too and as luck would have it is raining tonight!

Re: power window troubles on a '95
It happened on my 96 already, the lady that drove it before me already had it done, i know this because the lost the clips and hot glued the window swtiches back down, one time it was raining they got stuck half way down, but it only happened once, but good luck! P.S. Always go w/ the lifetime warrenty on something like that, the mid 90s are notorious for window motors.

Re: power window troubles on a '95
definatly sounds like window motor like diablo said. the reason for this is that with a switch, it will either work, or not work, it wont work and then cut off for no reason. the motors however, have a built in safty in the form of a circuit breaker, and when the motors are going bad, they have excessive power draw, this overheats the motor, and to avoid a fire hazard, the breaker kicks and the window stops half way down. come back later after its cooled down, and it will work again. i think the switch is waisted money, but also hazard against replaceing parts without any diagnostic. if you have a test light, pull the switch out, and back probe the output terminal to the motor, hold the switch, the test light should light up, and the window should move, if the light stays on and the window stops, the switch is fine. and the motor is faulty.

Re: power window troubles on a '95
Did you fix the problem with your window? I had to replace my motor. Now I'm told the inside of the door needs to be reglassed because the hole where it bolts on is getting to big. You might want to check that on yours too.
