2001 GrandAM SE electrical problem

Hello,
I am having a problem with my 2001 Grand Am SE. It happens intermittently, but recently had been happening more times than not. When I start the car, normally the daytime running lights come right on and all the dash board lights come on for a second and then all go off. However, lately when I start it nothing electrical comes on for 5-10 seconds. Then everything comes on as usual; a/c, dash lights, daytime running lights, but the "Service vehicle soon" light remains lit up. Also the A/C system will stop working for a few minutes and then come back on again from time to time.

Any ideas of what is going on with my car are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Hello,
I am having EXACTLY the same problem. Dealership pulled out two codes from OBD: B1379 (oil change reset button shortcut) and B2602 (missing latch signal from powered sliding door???). Second one is absolutely meaningless. Looks like BCM goes south. Dealership quoted me $500 to change BCM. I am considering purchasing BCM from gmpartsdirect for 140 and installing it (after fixing shortcuts).
Does anyone know should BCM be reprogrammed (to work with security, CD/radio)?
azshep, have you been able to fix your Grand Am? If so, how?
Thanks

smurash--

I finally broke down and took it to the dealer. Turned out to be a bad ignition switch. I forget the cost to have it replaced, but it wasn't cheap.
