accord lowering

im looking for an affordable yet quality way to lower my 96 accord...are coilovers the way to go? and what exactly are lowering springs? also, what are some good brands that dont cost too much?

i lowered my car front 2.2"/ rear 2.0" i brought neuspeed race springs, costed me around 150 online, but if you wanna don't go that low, i recommend eibach racing springs. the only coilovers i know that are good are teins, ground control, and stunk2. but they cost a lot. 250+

Eibach, quality, and relatively well priced. You should also get new shocks/struts if you're getting anything lower than the Eibach Pro-Kit (my personal recomendation for the Accord, not too low at all, but good looks, and performance).

Look at Tokico, Drop Zone, Koni and KYB struts/shocks.

The Drop Zone being the cheaper of the 4, but I've had good experiences with them.

Eibach srping is the best lowering spring in the market now... If you just want the eibach spring, they are running for about $216 w/ free shipping. If you have no money problem, I recommened go w/ the tein coilover. cuz after you put the lowering spring on your car, it will mess up your shocks, so sooner or later you need to change the shocks anywayz... Why don't you change the full suspension at the same time. so, you won't pay double the labor....

Drop Zones are JUNK, if your looking to save a little money and have a good ride H&R is your answer.

There are 2 types of coilovers, coilover sleeves which is a spring & threaded collar that can be used with any strut, Ground Control w/ Eibach springs are the only decent set on the market. The problem with sleeves, well there's a lot of problems but the main are broken spring perches, broken collars, goofy spring rates, low quality parts, & NO strut is actually designed for them. Koni sports will be the best choice for struts with coilover sleeves.
True coilovers is the other type, both spring & strut with threaded part built into strut, not just some piece that fits between the spring/strut like sleeves. For true coilovers Tein, H&R, & Toda are all very good but expensive. True coilovers are built, designed, & engineered to all work together in the full range of adjustments.

A lowering spring is a shorter spring with stiffer spring rates. The lower you go the stiffer they get & lowering more than 2" really affects the suspension geometry. Neuspeed Race, Eibach Sport Line, & H&R race all have very stiff rates, poor ride quality for the street. H&R sports, Eibach Pro-kit, Neuspeed Sports will have a decent ride w/ upgraded struts. When it comes to struts buy the best you can now. If lowering more than 2", Koni sports are the only way to go because of the adjustable springs perch, all other struts are stock lenght & wont last very long or control spring very well.

so, if i get coilovers, i wont have to worry about getting new shocks/struts? i tried bidding on an eibach prokit that was being sold with bilstein shocks, but was outbid

Correct, if you get true coilovers both springs & struts are included. The cheapest quality kit is Tein Basic, if it were me I would spend extra $$$ for adjustable strut dampening like Tein SS or better.

I just lowered my 99 LX Sedan with Eibach Pro-Kit springs and Koni shocks. It wound up dropping the car low enough so that I can just fit 3 fingers between the wheels and the fenders - but rubbing, etc., has not been a problem. I am more than satisfied with the setup.. Cost a little bit, but the compliments that I've received as well as the improvement in ride quality and stiffness made it MORE than worth it.

Just my opinion....
