1997 Z71 problem

I have a 1997 Z71 that will not start. Two weeks ago, the same problem happened-I got in it, turned it over a few times and it wouldn't start. Checked the relay and all the fuses under the hood and in the cab. Popped the top off the relay and it worked when the key was turned. I guess the underpants gnomes fixed it in the night because I got in it the next day and it started fine. Drove it for two weeks and now no go again. I cannot hear the fuel pump like usual when I turn the key on. The dealer replaced the fuel pump 15,000 mi. ago so I am having a hard time thinking it is the fuel pump again but if anyone knows how to check the pump, please let me know. Any other advice would help. Thanks.

Re: 1997 Z71 problem

get a fuel pressure tester, when it does it, make sure you have 60-65 psi (there is a sopt right next to the air cleanrd houding on top of the engine. It needs 60 -65 psi to start, and 55 + to run. if it doesnt get that when its doing it, could be a bad pump, clogged filer, or a wireing problem.

Re: 1997 Z71 problem

Hi,
Right behind the relay box below the brake master cylinder is a jumper that goes directly to the fuel pump it bypasses the relays.

There are two that I found there but it is the red one. And there is 12v on the large bolts at the rear of the relay box with big wires on them, so you just need a 6-8 inch wire to test.
When jumpered it will make the pump run continuously.
