DOHC burner blues. Need advice.

I have a 1991 DOHC auto trans.

The motor is still snappy but burns oil. About 1 quart every 200-300 miles.

I was told that only 1991-1992 will work in this car because after 92 Saturn used a different crank timing.

It this true?

Next question. If the above is true,

Could I just do a slop job ring replacement to get it by till tax time? Meaning just replace the gaskets and rings without doing any machining, bearing replacement, ect? You think it will hold off till Tax time?
