Exhaust sounds like crap...

I was having problems with my short shifter rubbing the exhaust and making it tought to shift.. so i redid it and now its headers, 2 1/4 straight pipes, and then flowmaster 40 series. It sounds terrible, it like ringy/raspy and way, way too loud. So i was wondering what setups all of you have and if ur happy with it, and i also dont wanna spend all the money on a $500 catback. Also what dashboards bolt directly in to 88 CRX's..or fit with few modifications.

Re: Exhaust sounds like crap...

SOHC ZC motor, stock exhaust manifold, stock cat, 2.5" piping mandrel bent from cat-back, glasspack in the midsection of piping, "fart can" muffler with a silencer.

I love this set-up, quiet when normal driving, but sounds nice at WOT. I used to have this set-up minus the glasspack and silencer and it was way too loud and annoying.

Re: Exhaust sounds like crap...

I have a complicated mess that is loud and annoying but gives lots of top-end... DC Ceramic coated header 4-2-1 bolted to a fabricated 2.5" collector about 3" in length welded to a 2.5" catco high flow with a 2-3" 2.5" section welded to 2" aluminized piping (midpipe) over rear axle which (used to be attached to a nice quiet thrush turbo muffler that rusted and dented fast) loops into a welded 2.25" section that cleanly loops where stock muffler would be up to a custom hanger mount on rear driverside behind my 14" stainless steel Arospeed RS Racing muffler with no tip to speak of (it came with a silencer but sound like ass with it on)... what a mess? oh well...

you car run open header and sound like an airplain coming in for landing...lol (j/p) a cat would help quiet it down (from what you said, sounds like you dont have one)

Re: Exhaust sounds like crap...

I don't have a cat either and mine is way too loud so I just ordered a hi flow cat and a new muffler with silencer. Hope that will make it a bit more quiet than it is now.

Re: Exhaust sounds like crap...

hey i am about to put new exhaust on my 91 civic. i am trying to find an exhaust combonation that will give me a nice tone without the raspy, "ricer", sound with minimal interior resonance. does anyone know of a company that has a muffler like this.

ive got a 4-2-1 headers with a hi flow cat, 2 1/4 pipe custum bent to the back ended with this..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33636

gives a nice sound, not real loud when ur just putsing around but when u pound the gas you know and can hear it. this is the third fart can ive thrown on my car and it sounds the best and works the best. for the money you cant beat it. and you wont get laughed at for sounding like a weed eater or lawn mower...

Re: Exhaust sounds like crap...

Mine had the same problem with the short shifter, so my mechanic cut off a piece of the linkage, and it worked fine afterwards, and no it didn't ruin anything

Re: Exhaust sounds like crap...

I Have 2.25 Inch Piping Into An Ansa Axle-back Exhaust Section... It Looks Stock But Has A 3" Tip. Sounds Great Too, Nice And Quiet.

Re: Exhaust sounds like crap...

I'm with jeef on this one, if your running a flowmaster you definatly need a resonator to get rid of the raspy sound.
