96 S10 Ignition Lock??

have '96 automatic V6 4.3 vortec S10...for past few days I have been having problems being able to start the truck....was hoping someone out there might be able to help...the key wont budge when I try to turn...ignition lock maybe?? eventually lock allows me to turn key and truck starts just fine....could some one send me a clue please...thanks much.

Simple question - The steering wheel is interlocked when the key is off. Try moving the steering wheel while applying pressure on the key.

tried the moving steering wheel thing....didnt work too well....do ignition locks fail? need to be replaced?

I didnt think that was it. I guess you'll have to dig into it. Ive heard of a failure on a Ford that you couldnt turn off the engine, so I guess they can fail.

try a new key on the 96 s-10

I would replace the lock cylinder before it freezes up completly

Had similiar trouble with the 91, wouldn't turn off on mine. Replaced the tumbler mech, about $20 at Autozone. Have to pull steering wheel etc. to get a small bolt out that holds it in.
