new boost gauge install help.
hey. i've looked on Vfaq, and on dsmtuner. but this is pissing me off.
i was hopeing you guys could help me out here. i cant seem to figure out how to get my autometer cf boost gauge fittings to hold the nylon boost hose aginst the gauge for a tight fit, its loose and just comes out without any effort. and that just dosent float with me. i even had my girfriend fiddle with it, with the instructions that came with it (giving her the open fire to call me an idiot if she figured it out) and after half an hour she gave up. so, if anyone could tell me using the letters i designated for the fittings. i would really really appriceate it.

ahh... it seems like i just did this yesterday. LOL..
first mistake.. DON"T ever let your girlfriend touch those. you think i am joking!?ok... i don't have my manual with me anymore. but i remember what a pain in the ass it was for me too. i don't remember exactly , but the trick is to have the nylon tube go trough "D" and then to whatever the bolt that holds it onto the gauge. and be ready, cause when you think you hvae it all setup right. you're still missing few pieces of things. besides the T-fitting you need to get separeately, you also need a rubber connector (usually in black) that you can usually find from autozone. what i did was i brought my already setup gauge to autozone and show the clerk the instruction manual, then he looked at the rubber connector on the manual and found me a connector that actually fits. most autozone guys are nice enough, he let me open it up and tried it on to the T-fitting. oh and dont forget the Taflon tape.

Re: new boost gauge install help.
Man, I just installed my autometer boost gauge almost a month ago and I remember having this problem as well. The only thing is, I can't really recall exactly how it all goes together. I do know that D is supposed to go around the tip of the hose and into the small side of A, though. I also remember having 1 or 2 pieces that I didn't use, and my friend that also has an autometer boost gauge didn't use a few pieces as well (I believe G and E were the pieces I didn't use).
It's definitely a PIA to figure out at first, but I did finally conquer that son-of-a-bitch Hope this helps!

Re: new boost gauge install help.
yeah no shit, this is how its suppose to be, but when it together, the damn tube just slides out with the slighest wiggle. is it suppose to be supper tight, or is loose ok?

Re: new boost gauge install help.
ya.. you're suppose to screw it on tite with the sealing nut. and like i said.. the ferrule goes on the nylon tube and everything goes into the adapter. and the adaptor screws on tite onto the meter tube with a tuflon tape in between. don't worry about the grommet, i didn't use that.

Re: new boost gauge install help.
Shoudl be a simple compression style fitting. The tube slides through the ferrule ok? Are you pushing the tube in towards the guage as you tighten the compression nut?
And for a super slick way to connect things under the hood, check out the hard tubing to soft line adapter in the tech pages at my site...

Re: new boost gauge install help.
lol, yeah dude i second that, keep your girlie AWAY from automotive stuff. Tehy have these magical and unexplainable powers that can cause mass destruction to your beloved toys, merely by touching them! Ive heard that autometers are usually unhelpful with their instructions, but shouldnt all boost gauges have the same install setup?

Re: new boost gauge install help.
You aren't pushing hard enough. You have to bend the brass into the nylon.
Put B or C on the nylon, opening facing the gauge... put on the ferrule, then crank it down until the hose stays. |

Re: new boost gauge install help.
i don't recall that it required that much force when i screwed it on. but then again. .. . i am strong
should be able to screw it on pretty easily with a wrench.
