1995 Aurora, rod knock (may part out)

Hello folks. Sometime lurker, first-time poster. heh

I had my Mom's Olds die on the way back from LAX yesterday. It had a faint knock after cresting a hill, and right as I hit the DLC for an oil pressure, the knock increased and the pressure showed 14 at 70mph in OD, less than half of normal. It fell to zero as I transitioned out of traffic and I coasted off the offramp. The oil is still full and free of anything aside from the usual 1500miles worth of contaminants. Smoke came out of the dipstick...at any rate, after getting it towed ($130!) I fired it up at the house to move it, and lo and behold, 20psi at idle for the first time ever. It has been at 8@idle for the few years we have owned it (no exceptions), but 8 seemed normal judging from what I read on the old Olds forum that seems to have died off.

After a couple of thousand in parts and a LOT of labor on my part, I think this is it. It's complete except for a couple of small window trim corners, the trans shifted great, and there are numerous new parts so I am considering parting it out and selling the rest as scrap. Any ideas?

Have to go, looking at a replacement car. Something...other than one of these, I guess. Pity the car wasn't built to back up its styling. Mom loved that car when it worked

TIA, peace

K

Sorry to hear about the Olds

Ken:

If you part out the car, please keep me in mind.
I live in Northern California, and would drive down to pull off the parts and pay you for them.

You can post your notice on this forum to let people know you are parting out the car. Also Ebay, you can sell off the parts.

I am interested in the all or some of the following:
Transmission
Water Pump
Left driver side inset trim panel and all the switches
Power Antenia
Center Counsel Walnut Trim (Shifter with handle)

Take Care keep us posted

Unhappy Hello Al.

My Mom's car is the same color as yours (avatar).

I spoke with her today, and right now we are looking at how we would go about the dismantlement. I am finishing the buildup of one of my hotrods on the RV slab and hope to be done in the next couple of weeks. I have an engine hoist and decent set of tools (many of which were purchased to effect repairs on the Olds...), as well as air tools and a compressor.

Once plans are in place I will look for this post right away. I would rather sell straight to people who, like you, are willing to come get the parts. Of course some things I would ship. My aim is to get things over with as soon as possible and get something back on our "investment".

Some parts of interest, all under a year in age and less than 1000 miles:

Fuel Pressure Regulator
MAP Sensor
Coil packs and module
Plug wires
Tires (Yoko, 10mm narrower than stock but nice and quiet, handled fine too)
Radiator
Main Rad Hoses
Heater core (two weeks old)

The rest of it is complete, and the car has about 77K. I will check back here as the situation develops. Thanks.

Ken

Edit: Al, all the parts in your list are here and working. I'm in Bakersfield FWIW. Later!

Hi there, sorry to hear about your Aurora troubles. If you decide to part out and can ship small items, I'm interested in the foglight bulbs, plug wires, and bass/treble knobs from the factory CD player. Yes, mine came without those knobs... I have no idea what happened to them! Thanks in advance!

I would be very interested in the power antenna if it still works. Also, the interior trunk switch, Thanks.

I would love the embroidered mats if they are tan in colour.

Re: 1995 Aurora, rod knock (may part out)

Hey all.

Quick update:

I am going outside now to get my other ride on the road. It will take a week or two, but rest assured that unless someone buys the car as it sits (I have yet to advertise it), parting shall commence later this month.

Parts:

I guess I will handle requests "first come/first served". As far as current inquiries go:

RoraStar: The car has plain mats, and they are in poor shape (from the heater core letting go...I'm surprised all it did was kill the mats).

scottydl: I will probably port the entire Bose system to another car, so the knobs are staying put. As stated, they are cheap at the dealer (and have no use on them unlike these )

mikelebo: Al claimed the antenna, but the trunk switch is up for the grab.

Have to head outside and get to work. I will check this daily. Thanks folks.

K

Edit: I would entertain offers on the whole car, of course. Also, if anyone knows of a resource for finding out what Aurora parts are worth (if such a thing exists), please fire away. Thanks.

Re: parts prices. Lotsa dealer new parts price pages (torn from a manual) available on ebay. I paid the $7 buy now price for mine because I wanted it right away. Very useful. (The prices shocked me!) Then you can calc a used price based on wear and usable life.

Might know someone interested in the remaining shell of the car, whatever is left after everyone here has their way with it. Drag car project. I work for a truck fleet here in Iowa but we run trucks through CA all the time. Also, I would at least like to get my hands on the intake tube (filter to TB).

Updating real quick,

as it's only 96 degrees out so I can work on the Ford for a bit

Discouraged: Understood, thanks very much for the hint.

Madcatter: Once the picking is under way I will post major changes here. Maybe we can work something out. Thank you.

Understood.

I saw a post like mine further down (without the aforementioned follow-up) and am glad I am being taken seriously.

I am very busy with some projects at work and home but I just verified that my Mom wants to simply part the car out. I am working feverishly to get the car I am keeping finished and will be gutting the Aurora as soon as possible (next couple of weeks, God willing). I appreciate everyone's patience btw.

If it works for all concerned I will do the "first come/first served" for parts off of this post. If that presents an issue please let me know.

Real quick before I go: konroh, I have two of the stalks, one with teh C/C tab busted out but fully functional otherwise. Also, I have the shop manuals (Helm, the huge buggers).

Have to go sweat some more, here's to a safe/fun weekend.

K

Edit: Sorry konroh, I do not have two of those levers. I was thinking of the wrong part. The one on the car works fine of course.

Unhappy What killed the board?

Hello all.

The page was offline from here for a few days, hence the lack of updates. If it goes dead for any of you too, feel free to use my email for questions.

We're picking up Mom's replacement car this Saturday, so between that and finishing my other car things are shaping up well. I just wanted to let everyone know that I did not disappear

Work has me swamped but I will still carry through with this as time permits. I'll be back soon.

Thanks,

Ken
