2000 Nissan Xterra Air Condtioning Problem

Hello, And Thanks For Any Info I Can Get. My Problem Is I Bought A 2000 Xterra From Someone I Know Who Has A Used Car Lot. The Vehicle Had Been Driven By His Family For A Few Thousand Miles And He Said The Air Condtioning Was Low And Needed A Little Shot Of Freon. This Was Last Fall And I Didn't Really Need The Air Conditioner So I Waited Til This Summer. Anyway I Took It To A Fellow Who Works On Big Trucks And He Hooked His Gauges To It And It Had Way To Much Freon In It And When It Did Work It Would Really Drag The Motor Down. So He Let Out A Bunch And It Started Working, But It Only Worked Til I Got In It And Drove Away. He Told Me To Change The Low Pressure Switch On The Dryer And I Did That But It Made No Difference. It Works Sometimes But Mostly When It's Cool Outside And Not In The Heat Of The Day. Anyway I Can Cross The Wires When I Take The Switch Loose On The Dryer And The Compressor Kicks In And Works Fine. Anyway Does Anybody Have Any Ideas As To Why It Works Sometimes And Not Others. I Checked The Relays And They All Seem To Be Working Fine. Thanks

I am curious as to whether you solved this problem. We are having the same problems with the air conditioning.
