92 Speedo

I found one post on a speedometer on these vans, but it was for an older model so i'm going to post just in case. My van is actually a 1992 GMC Safari with a Tiara high-top conversion and all the goodies I guess. It has the standard TBI V6 and auto tranny. My problem (among many) is that my speedometer doesn't work. For those of you that need it for a better diagnosis, here is some history on the van. It sat for about 2 years with an almost dead tranny. It wouldn't hardly go into reverse and drive wasn't much better. I changed out the transmission myself and that fixed that problem. The van then sat for about 6 months before I decided to sell it. Well, after all that sitting it wasn't about to start easy. In fact it took me 2 days to get the bad boy running again. Then it wouldn't stay running. The voltage would drop drastically and it would quit. I went through 3 batterys before changing the alternator. Then the alternator I bought turned out to be defective so I exchanged it. The van now runs great. Just like brand new and has been running that way for about 3 months. I posted on the Safari forum, but it seems that noone visits it enough to help me out. Any help from anyone would be great.

{edit}

By the way, the van has about 175,000 miles on it. It's a lot, but less then some people on here. These vans go forever don't they?

{end edit}

Re: 92 Speedo

Well I'll try. Two things run the speedos on Astro vans. VSS located in the trans. Did you get the VSS hooked back up properly when you swapped trannys?

Second thing is the DRAC module. Don't know what that stands for but it's located under the dash somewhere.

Suggest you come and post at www.astrosafari.com. There are alot more knowledgeable people about these vehicles located there.

HTHs,

Re: 92 Speedo

*Goes on knees and puts hand together* Thank you thank you thank you! You are the first person to even attempt to help me out with this. Many thanks.

{edit}

By the way, I swapped the VSS from the other tranny (because it was from an older one and was mechanical instead of electric) with the tranny out of my van. I may have screwed it up when replacing it so i'll look into it. Thanks again.

Re: 92 Speedo

Yea, I posted it, got some help the very first day. Turns out, when I put the VSS from my old tranny (electric VSS) into the new tranny (cable driven VSS) I didn't realize that instead of a gear on the output-shaft for the cable, there is an electric reluctor for the electric VSS so I've got a gear on there instead of a reluctor so, that's why it's not working. Thanks for your help.

Re: 92 Speedo

Ahh.. That would explain it then.

So how hard will it be to fix that??
