A fuel pressure regulator does just what it sounds like, regulates fuel pressure. An FMU boosts fuel pressure in relation to boost (4:1, 8:1, 10:1, 12:1 ratios are most common) to add more fuel to the car to make up for the turbocharger or supercharger. Some FPR's will also increase fuel pressure in relation to boost, but they do it in a 1:1 ratio and are typically used for carb'ed cars running a blow-thru setup, you need to raise the fuel pressure 1:1 to compensate for the boost pressure trying to force the fuel back into the bowls.

if you plan on boosting i would run more of a management unit then just a fmu because it only controls fuel, it doesnt control timing.

also if you get bigger injectors a fpr really isnt needed, it is only really needed if your injectors arent sized right and you need more fuel.

Re: fmu and fuel press reg q's

i have a question and maybe you guys can help me. I made a thread on this but got no help. When i drive my car for about 15-20 minutes my car starts to ideal at 1500 RPMs. Then when i'm at a complete stop and start off in 1st gear my car has the major "hick-ups" A friend told me it's because my ECU is reading boost and that's what causes the "hick-ups" so i was told by him to take out the e-manage, put on a bracket for the map sensor, get FMU, and get release pressure valves so it releases the boost. I understand what he is saying, but it just doesn't sound right! what do you guys think? have you heard of this and do you think it would help with my "hick-ups"?
