Insurance tips for the z32
Hi all, I am thinking about purchasing a z32. BUT I was wondering what insurance was like for some of you guys out there. I have read the previous forums on insurance, but no one really listed what state they were in. I intend this thread to be a database of some sort of insurance costs for each state and more detailed information. Please reply with the following:
1) How old you are, and how many years you have been licensed. 2) Turbo or N/A? 3) Is it registered under your parents name or yours? 4) Have you or your parents been in any accidents within the last 10 years? 5) What year your z32 is 6) What state do you live in? 7) What insurance company do you use? 8) Any other additional comments you may have. 9) How much is your insurance? state if the rate if per 6 months or per year please. PS Is it true you can get in trouble for registering a car under your parents name? I know no one would know unless you were in accident, but say that were to happen. Does the insurance company get mad and raise your rates like hell? I'm sure there are people with the same questions as me... Last edited by xsonik; 08-01-2004 at 07:47 PM. |

Re: Insurance tips for the z32
1) I'm 17 years old but I bought the car when I was late 16 years old. Also received insurance at that age.
2) Turbo. 3) It's registered under my name. 4) Both of us...well except for my mom (we all know how woman drives anyways) has not been in an accident. 5) I have a 1990 Z32. 6) Michigan. 7) All State. 8) I'm in this program for students since I am young still. Getting good grades on report cards saves you money on insurance cost. And yes, I have my insurance under my parents name. That's more then enough of an offer. I'm paying about $1,300 for 6 months and that's just with minimum coverage. I wouldn't want to place it under my name. If you don't have the money and you really want a Z32, I say go for a N/A unless you have the money or...your parents are buying it for you and insurance then fuck it, buy a TT. Just drive responsibily and safe. It's okay to list you under your parents name, maybe as a weekend driver or so. Maybe the Primary. It depends on your parents to decide that and how much they trust you. And if you did get in an accident. Not only does your insurance for the Z goes up, your parents also. That's why some parents do not want to add their child under their name simply becuase they don't trust them and do not want to take the fall if they get in an accident. |

Re: Insurance tips for the z32
if you have the car insured under your parents name, they MUST be the primary driver, which means they have to drive it 51% of the time. if you just happen to be driving it more and get into an accident and the insurance company finds out that you were driving the car more than your parents, your insurance is void and you are responsible for any fines, repair costs, and liability insurance costs. the way the insurance company would find this out is they go around to most of the neighbours and ask them who they see driving the car more... i know this because it happened to a friend of mine... she's now somewhere in the hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt.... don't be stupid.. obey the rules

1) 19 years old, had a liscense since I was 17
2) TWIN Turbo 3) ITS ALL MINE AHAHAHAHAHAHA! 4) No accidents on record 5) 95 6) Washington (Automotive hell) 7) Unigard 8) Have another car. My insurance just on the 240sx was about 1100 for 6 months. My insurance with the 300ZX is 2100 for 6 months. Thats with no accidents, a multiple car discount and having been with the company for two years. Thats NOT minimum coverage though, if it gets jacked or I do something stupid I can get paid (God I hope not...). Also, if you are ever in a situation that you will be gone for say 5 months and you insurance lapses inside that 5 months, keep your policy on standby for probably like 20 bucks. I was in this situation and because I kept on a insurance policy and was never not covered I saved about 1000 dollars on my current policy. And really if you are going to have a Z32 you should probably have something to drive every day anyway.

I don't believe your parents must be the primary driver. Last time I checked, I was listed as the primary driver. I think if you actually told your insurance that you (the child) will be the primary driver, they can do something for you. That is probably why my insurance is a little high. But I can't complain. I'm lucky enough I'm still able to pay everything off.

Re: Insurance tips for the z32
Damn, I think even if I had that much driving experience and that much of a clean record. I think I'm still screwed with insurance because I live in NJ. -=[ I WILL SAVE UP FOR THAT Z THOUGH!

quick note, dont get it in New Jersey haha
Then again mine isnt bad im 21 got my Z insured when i turned 20, well right before, I pay about 1400 a year. Its under my name two accidents, not my fault, 2 points(of course not my fault) non turbo encompass insurance. But i think they stopped insuring My friend with a 90 TT pays 8k in the same area i live in he has a new New Jersey insurance company that just started. It covers everything you want so he has everything down to his strut bars insured.(not literally) but he pays for head unit. 2k$ rims kits turbo upgrades. blah blah, just about everything. he pays, but he is covered. About the primary thing. My mom was a primary and we didnt have the 51% of the time rule and once again im in JERSEY! so i dont know what crazy people would make that insurance. TIME TO SWITCH and get your own insurance.
