engine performance question..

what is a good engine i should switch to....i was given a honda civic 4d lx and doesnt have the v-tech. and im trying to research these engines but im getting confused. i c the b16a the b16b the b17 the b18 .......someone please help me cause i dont want that stock engine in there but i dont want something thats gonna cost me a fortune...

and also whats better i c that there is two intakes for the civic the ram air and the cold air which is better?

Short ram is a shorter intake that is completely in the engine bay, and the cold air is longer and goes all the way to the wheel well. The cold air one will get you colder air (not air being heated by the motor like with the short ram) and will give you a few (and I mean only a few) extra hp. But if you like in an area where it rains a lot your cold air will suck up water when you hit big puddles and could hydrolock your engine; in that case get the short ram or a bypass.
