Timing Belt replacement on 2002

Does anyone know of an online guide to replace the timing belt on a 2002? My friend has one and I'm going to change his. I've changed timing belts before and know about the timing issues so that's not a problem, I was just looking for a guide for any unforseen problems. There is no Haynes guide for this car.

Alright thanks man. I'll use that one. I've done this kind of work before and I just wanted a general idea of the specific job, (i.e. will i have to remove the motor mount, will I need to lift the engine, etc.) Thanks again, I'll get 'er done.

well I got in there. I used infromation from AllDataDIY to get some schemamtics and got to the Crankshaft Pulley and got stuck. Went and bought a strap wrench and ws still stuck on it. Used my impact wrench and still stuck. I'm going to try again in a few days with a more pwerful impact wrench and if that doesn't work, then it's off to the mechanic.

Re: Timing Belt replacement on 2002

BalchRoadKeys, I removed that bolt on a 1989 Mazda 323 by putting the car in gear and having someone hold the brake as hard as they can while I used a HUGE pull bar (a 1/2 inch socket or pull bar with a 3 foot pipe for an extention will do) and after lots of pressure the bolt came right off. You just need lots of torque and the extension pipe will do that for you. Also the transmission and brake keep the crankshaft from moving. Good Luck.

Re: Timing Belt replacement on 2002

My Girlfriend just bought a 2002 mirage and what timing she bought it with 58K on the clock.

I havent changed a timing belt before because I have a timing chain on my car, but in anyone could point me to a write up on it, that would be greatly aprpeciated.

I called the dealership and they want $952 for a 60K tune up:

Sparks
Fluids (top off)
Tranny Flush
Radiator Flush
Rotate and balance tires
Injector Cleaning
Timing belt change
Cam seals changed. (didnt know about that last one)

I can change plugs, flush radiator, tranny I read up but believe I know how, Injector cleaning (sea foam!).

Also how many seals are there to be changed at the time of the timing belt, is it just the cam seal?

thanks a lot.
I should pick up the chilton manual, but after the 60K she should be good, just oil changed.
