not sure how to safely check that. I have a 12 volt test light if that helps. And I can go buy a meter if I need to. I want to learn this stuff.Any ideas?

You need a timing light or a spark plug testor. Ive got a spark plug tester, it looks like it might cost 2 bucks, but Ive never used it, because I dont know how it works and I dont want to shock myself. Timing light may cost 20-30 bucks. I have taken out a spark plug and hooked the case to a good ground and watched it, but its hard to see the spark in the daylight.

quick and easy way to check for spark, put a phillips screwdriver in the plug wire. Then place the screw driver near a safe metal contact point. the spark will jump from the screwdriver to metal. Oh, do this with the vehicle off, then have someone turn it over while you check for spark.

Re: 94 s-10 Pick up / won't start

the best way to check for spark is the first thing you have done. spray carb cleaner, brake cleaner, starting fluid into the carb or intake at someone is cranking the engine. you are supplying the fuel and all you need is spark to get the engine turning. if you supply the fuel and the engine doesnt start it is a spark related problem. i have seen many ignition modules go bad. you might want to check that first. is this truck carberated? fuel injected? does it have a distributor? i am not familiar with a 1994. give me some more info. change the cap and rotor if it has a distributor. give it a tune up before you go anyfurther.
