Fuel injection problems? 1988 Towncar
I have a problem I think with fuel injection. About a week ago my car started shaking and dying when I'd push on the accelerator. Almost like it was misfiring. Well after changing the spark plugs, cap & rotor, it still (but not as much mind you..) does the shaking thing. It feels like just before you run out of gas and it sputters a bit. (if anyone has experienced that before).
My next step i'm heading in is to change the air/fuel filter and flush the injectors? Does anyone think that will help? Thanks very much! Andy Vancouver, Canada |

That does sound like misfiring to me too. Idle's correctly then rough under acceleration. I'd suspect the ignition coils, possibly a crack that bleeds high voltage to ground? Try it in the dark, you may be able to see the voltage tracks, or hear them?
My 2 cents...

Phoenix,
I have the same problem, but my car just shakes upon acceleration, it never dies. The thing is that it doesn't do it all the time. I was wondering if yours did that consistently or just once in a while. I've also noticed that my car is more prone to doing that when I've been driving it pretty hard - slamming on the gas, passing, etc. |
