DSM Shootout 2004

I dont think this has been brought up yet, but is anyone here going to the SO this year? For those that have never been, or perhaps never heard of it, its the one time each year DSMers gather from across the country to compete in DSM only racing. Though this year they did another similar event but way down south, it will be the week before the SO. And the NJ/east coast SO that was mildly successful was in the spring, not sure how it went. But the main SO is the biggest DSM event of the year, put on by Buschur at Norwalk Raceway Park in Ohio.

NEDSM books up half of the econolodge, 5 minutes from the track. We all caravan out there on friday, this year the 13th of august. Saturday is no longer the summit sport compact nationals this year though, just a dyno competition and some other small events. Basically drinking beers and BSing. Sunday the 15th is the big day. Then we drive back monday. I think the POSR crew is going seperately this time, not sure. Chad and I will be towing with our respective turbo diesels, and ricer will be driving his car. I drove the last two years the whole 700 miles each way, this year I'm taking it easy

Anyone from here plan on going? Be nice to put some faces (and cars) to the names...

Re: DSM Shootout 2004

as of right now i am planning on goin... that is if i can find out why the fuck my car is over heating and fix the oil leak before i go! i have the time off of work but i just gotta get my car running right before any type of trip happens... there is a pretty steady oil leak right next to the oil pump sprocket and i believe i have an air bubble in the coolant system, anyone have any suggestions on how the fuck to bleed it? just need those 2 things done and i'm goin!

Re: DSM Shootout 2004

If i haven't sold my car by then, i will go for shits and giggles, just to see what a Spyder GS runs. I am about an hour away from Norwalk. When is the shootout? EDIT: Ah, serves me right for not reading. I'll prolly see some of you on the 15th then.

Re: DSM Shootout 2004

Jake, make sure you find me while we're out there. It'd be nice to meet you. To bleed the bubbles, have the car flat on teh ground, rad cap off, and let the car run until the tstat opens and you can see collant flowing. You'll lose some coolant since it will expand as it heats up. Try it on jackstands too if that doesn help, sometimes playing with the angle of the car will get the bubbles to slide on out to the cap. Then just keep checking it for a couple days. Also, have the heater on full blast full hot while you do it. The very few times I've had a bubble, they end up in the heater core.

The oil leak could be the seal at the oil pump sprocket, which would be a pain in the ass to change! If its a real slow leak, I would wait, lol. But there are still 12 days!
