Rough idling

Hi I drive an 94 olds regency98,All of a sudden it started idling really rough it acts like it wants to die but it doesn't,when i step on the gas it kind of hesites it goes but it takes a long time to get up speed. It was running great before this.I had a fuel filter put on a week ago the oil changed spark plugs, put a good gas treatment in it.some one said maybe the guy didn't gap my plugs right but the plugs. were put in over two weeks ago.Any other suggestions i hate to have to take it back to the shop it always costs me a small fortune.could it be spark plug wires, what do they usually cost.THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP.its pretty hard for a single women to no if shes getting ripped off.

Re: Rough idling

Spark plugs are dirt cheap, one to 4 or 5 bucks each depending on what you buy, it could be a lot of things also, bad plug wires, how long since they were changed? If someone recently worked on it, they could have caused the problem as well. It could be the gap, it should be around 0.060" but check the tag on the radiator. Check all the plug wires to make sure they are properly attached to the plugs. Just do some minor checks before running to the shop and save yourself some jack. Also see if you can isolate a missing plug by pulling off each wire one at a time, while the engine is running, to see if you can find a missing cylinder, then check that plug and or wire as the culprit.
