Unhappy 92 Park Av Ultra alarm goes off unexpectedly

My 1992 Park Avenue Ultra has a GM Factory alarm. Security light and the cars horns are used. When the doors are locked the alarm is set. Periodically, the alarm goes off for no reason. Any ideas what may be causing this problem or a way to disable the alarm.

Re: 92 Park Av Ultra alarm goes off unexpectedly

I have the exact same problem - same vehicle. Dealer has spent 3 days diagnosing, but only thing they found was a service bulletin about adding a ground wire to the trunk switch. Well, that didn't solve the problem. Interesting though... it only happens after about 7:30pm or so (never in the daytime). Temperature or light related? My twilight sentinel doesn't turn off headlights in the minimum setting like it should - does yours? Just grasping at straws like you probably are.

Scratch twilight sentinel theory. Blocked off photocell with electric tape to fool car to think it was always nighttime. 24 hours later alarm went off about same time (same result 3 days consistently). Only other photocells I can think of are 2 on the rear view mirror -- blocked them off and still alarm goes off once a day around sunset. Back to the drawing board once again!

Finally found the problem. Trunk lock tamper switch. If you cut the blue wire to the switch in the trunk lid it will basically disable the switch, or you can replace the switch for about $100.

Security Alarm

I have a 95 Buick Park Avenue and joined this site for the same reason. About 5 weeks ago my car alarm started to go of every night at about 9:30 PM, Sometimes 7:30 ,11:30 and even two nights in a row at 3:30 AM. Always in the dark and always on the half hour. I was hoping to find some answers here. I don't want to disable the alarm but I don't know how much more I can stand it. I cannot cut the wire to my trunk lid. The key does not work for some reason and I can only open the trunk with the interior button. What does the trunk wire have to do with this problem?

Does cutting the blue wire also stop you from opening the trunk with your interior switch? My trunk key does not work for some reason, and I can only open the trunk from the inside of the car.

Not sure about the 95 Park Ave blue wire affecting remote opening of trunk lid, but my 92 PA FOB worked and the interior button still worked with the blue wire cut. Here's an idea... cut the wire, then splice longer wires to both ends (remember to electric tape the exposed splices) and hang them out over the bumper. Close the lid and try your FOB or interior button. If the lid doesn't open, then splice the two ends of the wires hanging out of the trunk together and try again. Personally, I wanted the tamper switch operable, so I forked out the cash for a new switch. Good luck!

Re: 92 Park Av Ultra alarm goes off unexpectedly

I just stumbled across this thread. I have a '95 Park Ave and the alarm goes off almost every night after sunset. I just went outside and cut the blue wire inside the plastic coil going to the trunk lid.

Remote trunk still works but the security light still flashes as normal when I power locked all the doors shut. Don't know if that means anything.

Anyway, I should know shortly if this works or not since the car is parked right outside my window and I'll definitely know if/when the alarm decideds to continue going off.

Called up Buick dealer. He said they could most likely disable the alarm for about $200 (2 hrs) labor. But figured I'd try this first.
