Re: Mobil 1, Royal Purple, or Amsoil

I have 2 good things to say about amsoil.

#1 oil changes are much less frequent (about every 10k-12k kilometers.

#2 My car started in -40 degree C temps

This leads me to believe that amsoil is the best, and it comes highly reccomened by shops around town who can get it.

I agree about the Amsoil. Have been using it in my new Jeep. Change every 12.5K and if you ever have an oil related failure of the engine send them a sample and they will replace the engine for you. Ask Mobil 1 if they will do that.

DO NOT USE AMSOIL;
well dont use amsoil, they dont warrenty the oil or stand behind thier product. I had an outboard motor 75 horse Mercury. used Amsoil in it ran for about 2 months, then blew up . The Mercury Dealer sent in the motor to Amsoil to have it checked out by thier tech,s This was thier excuse to not to stand behind thier oil,They sent it back saying that do to high useage in salt water was the cause why the motor blew.The funny thing was i owned this motor since new and NEVER was in saltwater.only freshwater lakes. My mercury Dealer told me ,this was an easy copout to not replace the motor.The dealer told me the motor blew because of lack of lubrication from the oil. Definatly go Moblie 1

Ps Mobile 1 does have a exellent satifaction garenttee

You know, the way it reads, it says it's up to them to make up their minds if it was their oil that made your motor blow up.
Let me think about this; NO it wasn't THEIR oil that did that.
Still like Mobil 1.

I think you didnt read the warranty fully....
They will cover it only after the OEM says it was a oil fault....

Hello;
You didnt read my post closely, I stated thet Amsoil told us that the motor blew up because of too much salt water. they told us it was saltwater corostion,like they stated,heavy use in saltwater.This motor NEVER seen saltwater .The motor was around 3 or 4 years old. The Mercury dealer showed me the damage before we sent them the motor.It was clearly seen that it blew because of lack of lubrication from the oil. I cant say that thier car motor oil isnt any good or not . I emediatly dumped the motor oil out of my suv when this happened to the outboard. I myself use Mobile 1 in my vehicles tho. Now that Outboard motors are a way lot more expencive than a car motors. thier like $7,000 to $8,000 for around a75 horse

why didnt you fight them on the warranty?
surely if you never took it out in salt water you could prove it....

no one has said anything about Royal Purple. Why? I use the stuff and I have been happy with it, exept for the price. I'm not real sure how to tell the difference between a good oil and a bad oil but my car runs smoother and it came highly recomended by my friend who runs an O'reilys store and the people at Napa. Plus i have not had any problems after my frequent treks to the 1/4 mile drag.

Re: Mobil 1, Royal Purple, or Amsoil

OK, it's a boat motor, right. Sounds like you run it IN salt water. And the Mercury dealer says it was the oil and not any trouble with the motor. Sounds like you should have a good case for court.
