Re: 91 honda accord door still wont open
your door lock latch mechanism is broken. Internals are made out of plastic. The latch mechanism will cost about 250 bucks brand new from the dealership. Search on some previous threads on how to get the mechanism out. Another member said he removed the front seat to get good access to the door panel. then used a cutoff tool and some other tools like hammer and chisel to get the mechanism off the door from the inside. Other wise it's probably gonna run about 500-600 bucks at the dealership (labor mostly). Seems to be quite a common problem for these cars. Call the dealership service dept and they'll know about it. Good Luck!

Hey! thanks a lot Jimmyz. I located the unlock lever by drilling a 1/2" hole 2-1/2" from the door's edge beneath the moulding but ,yeah that lever is loose. seems that I will have to destroy thr lock inside the door.
dont forget I live on an island, Honda dealers are not just around the block, but Thanks anyway. I know which course to take now. |

I have the same problem. Damn door wont open and on top of that the window is broke too, when i roll it down it wont roll back up, comes off the track; i was told the window mechanism is broken. Took my car to try to get door fixed and they couldnt get it open after leaving it there all day- they said they will have to cut the door off and i will need a new door! Any suggestions?? Are they just trying to rip me off ? From what I have read it seems this happens alot in this year car!!

You need to get the window up any way you can, then tape it closed. Then make a piece of wood shaped like a door stopper, or find a similar wedge and drive it down between the window and the door's skin. You can usually spread them enough to look down in there without damage. Then you may be able to visualize what's not happening by flipping the door handles...if it popped a rod off the latch, and you can see the lug on the latch it was supposed to connect to, you can bend up a similar piece of rod, or snag it any other way you can, and open the door....then you'll be able to pull the interior panel and see what you gotta do with the mess...

PS lockout kits, like tow drivers use, have a nice little plastic wedge made for this purpose....see if you can borrow one maybe, or even buy one, try Harbor Freight maybe....

Re: 91 honda accord door still wont open
You could also try a slim jim,...most older imports, because of how they unlock if you pull the inside door handle, will simultaneously unlock and open when you hit the right spot with the 'jimmy.
http://www.amazon.com/Slim-Jim-Locko.../dp/B0002TW2IC ![]() Here's an entire lockout set with wedges, slim jims and wonder rods for $19...in fact I'm gonna buy one now that I think of it...used to have all that stuff. If your doors are the type that unlock when you pull the interior handle, I know I could pop it with a jimmy....and the wedge allows you to see what you're doing in there, without fighting the weatherstrip. And the rods will work to snag the latch release lug and pull/push, if it comes to that. If it sounds overwhelming, when you get the wedge, use it and flashlight to look inside your working front door while you operate the lock and latch. You'll see how it works, and be able to determine how to release the bad side... Many times the rods pop off just because a small retainer clip drops off...if this is the case, replace all of them on both rods, or you'll be doing this again, probably.
