'90 Cavalier...changing ignition lock

Key broke off in the ignition...got jammed really good. I went out and bought an ignition lock, but had trouble getting the old one out. I was able to get as far as unscrewing the steering wheel...but when I tried to pull off the wheel...there was nothing. The instructions the ignition lock gave me where very vague, basically saying, "Remove steering wheel." then "Change ignition lock." So if anyone has changed their ignition lock or gotten a broken key out of the ignition. Please hit me up...

Re: '90 Cavalier...changing ignition lock

You will need special tool to remove the large Star plate. It cost about $10 in most parts stores. DO NOT attempt to remove without this tool. The star plate has a spring behind it and it can kill you. This tool is easy to use. You then remove a plastic cover and you will be able to see the pin on the side of the lock cylinder. Push in the pin with a screwdriver and the cylinder will slide right out. Good Luck.
