Post my car won't start; please help!

I have a 1995 Chevy Cavalier and it won't start. It isn't the starter or the battery. Does anyone know if this vehicle has a starter relay and if so, where is it located?

Re: my car won't start; please help!

This car uses a Solenoid for the relay, it is mounted on the starter. If you describe what happens when you turn the key perhaps we can help you find the problem.
1. does it turn over?
2. does it do nothing at all?
3. does it make a clicking sound and nothing else.
4. do you other electrical items (headlights, radio, etc) work?
5. if it does turn over, does it fire at all?
Any answers to these will help. Good Luck.

Re: my car won't start; please help!

My car doesn't do anything when I turn the key. It doesn't turn over or make a clicking sound. The other electricla items, the headlights and radio, do work. I appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks!

Are you sure it's all the way in park?

Sounds like your Solenoid may be bad. It looks like a small can on the side of your starter with wires attached. You can try tapping it with a hammer handle (shadetree testing). You may also have a bad ignition switch or a burnt fusable link. If you know anyone who works on their own cars they may try using a "remote starter switch" to check the solenoid. These can also be used to bypass the fuseable link. If none of these check out then look at the ignition switch. It is inside the car on top of the steering column.

Have you covered the basics:
1. are the battery cables in good shape? the starter takes a lot more current than the radio.
2. is the ground strap in good shape?
Good Luck.
