Re: 97 acting rather strange

The defroster sounds like a bad ground. On the other stuff, you need to get someone to pull the codes. could be just a bad sensor, corroded connector, ect. hope this helps.

Re: 97 acting rather strange

i have a 97 cirrus lx that's having really bad issues also. i've been trying to avoid having a shop trace the wiring to find out the problem. it seems the computer isn't talking to the car anymore since the check engine light won't come on anymore. i guess i'll be calling a shop tomorrow about it....and get ready to be charged $60 an hour for labor

Got serious issues with my 95 Cirrus...tranny won't shift sometimes...dealer says computer bad...replaced it...shifts fine but puter won't talk to the diagnostics so they say wiring harness...also the check engine light on now and speedometer doesn't work. Help!!!

Re: 97 acting rather strange

You all need to check your battery (located between driver side front wheel & headlight) cable ends & battery. Clean them REALLY GOOD! There is a cover that you will need to remove to get to the battery, taking the wheel off makes this job much easier, {take my word 4 it}! You should take your battery out, and to Advance Auto, Autozone, or whatever parts store you use, they will test it for free. If your battery tests below 75% capacity(under load), it will render your cloud car mentally challenged, AND, a bad ground will do the same thing! My 96 Cirrus died, the wipers, cruise, came on while switched off, all dummy lights lit up, gas guage dropped (while full), all because I had a bad ground at the battery! I thought that I was in HUGE trouble, but these cars seem to be VERY dependant on a good ground.
I took 80 grit sandpaper & cleaned my battery & cable ends, re-assembled it,(after it tested at 11 volts U/L) and to my astonishment, all was well, and still is!
When having your battery tested, you will need a new one if it pulls it below 9 volts(ask the guy testing for the results!)-that's 75% of 12 volts. Hopefully, this will be at least one of your problems.
Wishing the best, and cheapest fix 4 all! 'bird
