Question Re-Calibrate your tach!!

anybody know how to do this, mine is no longer accurate after I did my swap. Has anyone experienced this after thier swap. I had to rely on my timing light for accurate readings during tuning. after it warms-up, the needle sits all the way at the bottom, iam prolly 500rpm off or so. I have looked for another Si cluster(88-89) to no avail. iam also not sure it will behave the same way.I really dont want an aftermarket tach or one from a 90-91, so any helpful suggestions would be kool.

Re: Re-Calibrate your tach!!

Stock Tachs are just notoriously inaccurate.

not really, factory tachs use a coil spring and tension to determine the rpms from the tach cable. after 100k or so miles and the coil springs lose their tension. aftermarket tachs pick a signal off the ignition.

hope that helps

Re: Re-Calibrate your tach!!

i have a 88 89 cluster sitting around.. I live in MN and could ship if you want.. PM me if you're interested.

Also... honda tachs are electronic.. i've never actually seen a cable operated tach.

i have no idea why yours would be off besides a different signal from the ecu.

Re: Re-Calibrate your tach!!

the swap should not have effeccted your tach at all. check your wiring.

Re: Re-Calibrate your tach!!

my wiring is perfect, didnt even mess with the cluster. I mean, the tach does work, just -500 inaccurate. i'm getting used to it but its a pain when trying to tune the car, and just doesnt look right!
