Emissions problem

1990 3.1 V6 Grand Prix
Failed HC test on Provincial Emissions Test- close but still failed. All looks good so changed out O2 sensor. Slight improvement in all sections except HC. Slightly worse. Getting code 44 and 45. What to do next?

Re: Emissions problem

High levels HC could mean the intake is excessively fouled with carbon. An expensive solution is to have the intake removed and cleaned (last resort). May want to first run a couple of tanks of good 91+ octane gas and a bottle of FI cleaner and see what that does for you. If that doesn't bring the levels down look next at a complete tuneup.
