Emissions problem
1990 3.1 V6 Grand Prix
Failed HC test on Provincial Emissions Test- close but still failed. All looks good so changed out O2 sensor. Slight improvement in all sections except HC. Slightly worse. Getting code 44 and 45. What to do next? |

High levels HC could mean the intake is excessively fouled with carbon. An expensive solution is to have the intake removed and cleaned (last resort). May want to first run a couple of tanks of good 91+ octane gas and a bottle of FI cleaner and see what that does for you. If that doesn't bring the levels down look next at a complete tuneup.
