Re: thermal wrap?

thermal wrap = good

the downside is that it keeps all the heat in, which can decrease the life of the metal that the downpipe/headers are made of.

i have my downpipe painted and wrapped... and you can touch the pipe after it's been idleing for a while.

there's just nasty smoke when it's first put on (baking solid)

but a cooler engine bay always = good

The fact that it keeps the exaust hot is a very good thing. However wraps can be very dangerous especially on the exaust manifold since the temperatures experienced by the metals are much higher.

What I would recomend instead is to take your exaust manifold port and polish it then send it to be ceramic coated on the inside.

Re: thermal wrap?

depending on how many miles your car has on it, it might not matter that the metal might go a little sooner.

but aside from that part, the only real downside is the horrible stank when the stuff is melting onto the metal

no no no...130C that way to little, it will melt in no time.

This is the proper way to do stuff:

and if you look at the prices its not too bad

Re: thermal wrap?

I vote ceramic coating. My header was only $120 to have it ceramic coated.
