New toy for Hyde .... coming in a few weeks :D

One of the MR2 brethern has arranged for a 8 sets of custom light-weight drag wheels made to fit the MR2 and I am number 1 on the list to get them .... should be about 6-7 weeks till I have them.

FRONT: 15x4 (7lbs) true 3 piece wheel
REAR: 15x8 (10 lbs) true 3 piece wheel

Race wheels (at least the skinnies) can not be bought off-the-shelf for the MR2. No one makes one with the proper backspacing to fit over our brakes. Other MR2ers have been using longer studs and spaers, but that is not a game I want to play.

I have been racing on 16X7" Enkei RSE's which are not exactly light.
I've been using my 215 Falkens for the front and 255 BFG drag radials (for sale - check for sale forum).

On the front rims I am going to be mounting a 165 and I just ordered 275s drag radials for the rear. I am hoping the extra power I now have added to the extra traction out back and the extra lightening of the front will result in much better ETs and maybe even popping the front wheels off the ground a hair or two

The down side is this $$$ I am spending on this is going to push back me buying EMS, cams & gears and fuel rail + larger injectors. That will end up being a winter project.

We'll see what happens ...
Here's some pics of the rims:

It is more of an "old school" muscle car look ... but I like that aspect of it.

Re: New toy for Hyde .... coming in a few weeks :D

We had an MR2 that is much farther along than mine in the SCC challenge and he had some issues when it came down to it ... these things happen.

I am hoping for some magazine coverage soon as well.

Because we're more open to various automotive subjects in here, than in most other forums, including others in AF.

Nice wheels ! Brings back many memories *sigh*

BTW for those who's threads I deleted, you want to trash threads like a fucknuckle do it else where!
Sorry J/H not letting this thread go to shit.

Back to the wheels. Very light! A hell of a lot lighter than my 22 lbs MomoGT2's! I've got a set of Panasport 17x9's in my garage with the left hand ones badly damaged when I was forced off the road. They are light at 12 lbs but I can't seem to converse with the company that can supply me two new outters due to that Japanese/English translations grrr.
The less unsprung weight the better acceleration you will have that is fact. Keep us informed.

Very nice. I love how 3 piece wheels look... I've always wanted to have the center section powercoated black, use black allenhead bolts to hold them together, and put em on a very black car. Just a polished aluminum ring will be seen... I think that'd look sweet. Black rims on a black car already looks cool, but with a touch of chrome... poity. I gotta get me some new rims(running 15x8 steel rims.. mag 500s which are so cliche muscle car, I'm sick of em. plus I need wider tires! Wouldnt mind 16"ers either.) I will probably get something similar to yours. Sorry, ran off topic as I usually do. An older MR2 like yours is on my 'cars to buy' list. For a domestic lover like myself, my list contains no domestic cars. how odd. The list stands(in order): XD falcon(aussie import... shipping will be more than the friggin car! Still only around $4k), Saab Sonnett(engine swap/awd candidate), mr2, rx7. If the aussie XD is too difficult to attain, then a sn95 cobra will do. Sorry, off topic again. Nice rims...
